Hi, i just wanted to introduce myself, my name is Atli and i come from Iceland, but i currently live in Hamburg, Germany.
I have been riding bikes since i started again in 2007 and i have only had race bikes since then, and all of them Suzuki GSX-R .

Few years ago i started noticing cool Café Racers on the internet and thought they were really cool and the options are endless.
So i started to look for a bike and the obvious choice for me was a Suzuki GS 550D (D= wire wheels) i set myself a budget for a 1000€ which is around 1150$ and after looking for a bit over a year i missed out on two bike that were in my price range and close to my home here in Hamburg, Germany is a very big country and i didn't want to drive more than 200 km just to take a look at a bike that maybe i didn't want to buy.
Me and my wife have decided to move back home to Iceland in the summer time so i was getting stressed out on finding a bike that i liked, and i the decided to look at other bike manufacturer and came across ´78 Yamaha XS400 it was advertised for 800€ and i got it for 600€ (680$).
After i brought the bike home i said to my wife, i will bet you that before we move back home that there will come a Suzuki GS550 for sale she then said "if that happens then you will just have to buy it too" ;D .... low and behold.... 10 days later i saw an advertisement on the same website for a ´79 GS550, i called the guy and 3 days later i went to meet him and the bike looked in very nice shape, and i bought it. ;D
So now i have two bikes that i am hopefully going to build a café racer from, one for me and one for my wife, (yeah she rides too).
But when that time comes i don´t know ;) :) ;)
Attached are pictures of my bikes. (and my car to, which is another project, when the time comes ;) )
Why can´t i post pictures here directly? what am i doing wrong?

Welcome from another Scandinavian member. Nice bikes, they will be good foundations for rebuild in the long Island winter ;-)

Are you allowed to import the bikes to Island without taxes? Even if I buy an old bike like yours I would be ripped pulling it across the Danish border.

BTW- I live less than 200km north of Hamburg

Hi Per, your right, the winters are long, so this will keep me warm and busy.
I have to pay taxes on both of the bikes when i ship them to Iceland and that is around 4-500€ per bike.
