New girl here-- my CB175 project

Hi everybody,

My name is Jenni and I've been lurking around these parts for awhile checking out builds and such. I like tinkering with motorcycles, scooters, bicycles, etc etc. I grew up on the farm watching and helping my dad work on stuff, and I like to do the same but always have lots to learn.

Anyway, I've been looking for an old CB on and off for the past several months, and finally came across a good deal - a guy wanted a lil 50 pitbike, and had a 71 CB175 he wanted to trade, clean title. I happen to have a lil honda xr50, so we straight up traded. Worked for me! He said it didn't idle very well, but I figured all it needed was a good carb cleaning. It was pretty nasty, didn't get any pics if it tho. I did that, replaced the battery, and it fired right up! Sweet. Still have a ton of work to do, but at least it runs and cruises around nicely!

The guy i got it from started to work on it.. he ground off a bunch of tabs and stuff, flipped the bars, but that's about it. frame has a good amount of rust on it, i'm going to get that blasted off and see what I have to work with.

Here are a few pics.
the day i picked it up

cleaned the carbs, so pretty now!

got it running decently, time to strip it down to get this frame painted!

I need to replace pretty much all of the cables, the grips are shot, and i want to get some other bars, maybe clip ons. Brakes are good and shocks are ok, forks are a bit soft though. Probably gonna rewire a bunch too, the PO's battery leaked all over the wires and it's just a matter of time til they are toasted!

I'll be bugging you guys for lots of help i'm sure!

Re: New girl here-- my new CB175, work (or pain in the ass!) in progress

Looks like a nice starting place. Quite a bit better than the starting condition of most around here! Keep the updates coming.

will do! gives me something fun to do over the winter and keeps me outta trouble ;)

Bugger all wrong with that bike chic. As 66 said that's pretty damn mint compared with most of the basket cases on here. Whats the mileage?

Yeah, good find! Great tank, throw a seat and bars, doodads etc. and you're D-U-N done!

the odo says 4k something (already forgot) but i dont know how accurate it is... today i got it all stripped down and the rust isn't nearly as bad as i thought, not rotted or anything and i already got most of it off. pretty happy about that!

thanks for the welcome, i've already learned a ton about these lil bikes by reading on here. good stuff!

Could have swore I saw your exact bike at Zdeno's a couple weeks ago. If you need something and are from the area I would check it out for sure. Looks like a nice one you have there, good luck!

Marry me.

you can use any of my tools whenever you want. :D

i will stay up every night polishing your bike and making sure its nice and warm just in case if you want to ride it in the morning.

Hey! Another girl! :D Glad you joined the party!! I look forward to seeing what you do :)

thanks! i always end up on forums with not that many girls, but i sure do learn a lot! not many girls are cool enough to do their own wrenchin' lol. i just think it's a lot more fun to do my own work, not to mention cheaper!

haha thanks rocan, i could use a little help in the garage, my propane heater did just run out the other day ;-) jk!

Don't encourage him, He'll be sleeping in your barn before you know it! :-)

Good to have some females around. Its really just been GO! for so long and one or two others that have come and gone. Pretty good bunch here (Rocan included). Some of the bike forums I've seen can be brutal on the girls.

Keep us posted
