New guy intro

Hi all, I'm new to this forum. From Alabama, currently working on a '74 cb750 basket case, and a cb550 in a '72 cb500 frame. First time really delving off into the engine in the 750. I'm not too worried, I've rebuilt car motors before. I'm ex-Air Force. I worked in the structures back shop, and in the paint section.

So currently the 750 is getting disassembled, rings replaced, cylinders rehoned, new valves. All the while my step son is getting his hands dirty for the first time (he's 15). I'm pretty lucky that I have a wealth of knowledge just a phone call away from my Father in law. He's the bees knees. If you ever get a chance and go to Barbers Motocycle Museum, I would highly recommend getting my father in law give the tour. His name is Brian Slark.

Welcome to dotheton! I'm from Alabama as well, Gulf Shores specifically. There are a few member here from the b'ham area. My step son and I worked on old bikes together around that age as well. It turned out to be a great way to get him into working on his own stuff! Now he's 19 and has bought his own bike. Your paw-in-law works at the museum? Dude that's awesome! Anyway this forum is a great resource and guided me through building my cb750 5-6 years ago. And now it seems like any answer you could need is already here. CrazyPJ in particular knows his shit! It seems like he's still bumping around here from time to time. My advice is that when he speaks on anything mechanically related to a motorcycle, pay attention! Post up some pictures of the bikes and maybe start a build thread!

Welcome Bucky. I met Brian a few times when I was hanging out with Team O in vintage racing. (it can't really be called work when you get to wrench on an MV triple and a Honda 6 with Nobby Clark can it). Brian is an all round nice guy and knows his bikes for sure.
