Hi everyone. I'm new to the site but have been lurking for a bit. Nice group of enthusiasts here and some terrific bikes! I've been a big fan of cafe bikes and their history since I can remember. Always dug their aesthetic and individuality.

I'm in Nova Scotia and have been riding on the street for 9 years. I currently have a neo-cafed Ducati Monster that's been an ongoing project for about 5 years. It's been a ton of fun building and modifying my Monster during our long winters, and riding it on our twisty Nova Scotia roads in the summer.

Another Maritmer, Welcome, let's see the Monster. It's on my bike to buy once it gets 15 years old and I can afford it list.

Where are you located, Maritime Biker? I'm in Truro but I ride with a lot of people from HRM.

Here are a couple of pics of my Monster. I always thought the Monster was like a natural evolution of the standard bikes of the 60's - great handling chassis wrapped around a powerful motor. Rather than take a new bike and make it old looking, I decided to build it in the spirit of the original cafe racers by using the fastest, lightest parts I could find. It may not look like it at first glance, but there's very little left on my Monster that's entirely original. It's no garage queen either - I have about 30k kms on it and counting.

Beautiful bike Markus! I have always loved the Monsters. Missed out on a chance to buy a low mileage early model for 1g a few years back :(. One of the only modern bikes I really dig though, and yours is one of the nicest ive seen. Dripping with class!
 
I'm in Moncton. I travel to Halifax at least 2-3 times in the summer on the bike and I have a sister in the Valley I visit too. Nice Monster. No point having a bike like that and just looking at it. Glad you ride it. Too many people out there own bikes and never use em. I am having withdrawls right now. I may have a line on a frame from my wifes cousin to build another bike this winter. I hope he can find the title. I need something to keep me busy.

Thanks VonYinzer. It's been a labour of love. :) There are many manufacturers of aftermarket parts for Monsters so they're infinitely customizable. Sorry to hear about that missed 1k bike, but there are lots of Monsters around at very reasonable prices. They're certainly not as expensive as many people seem to think.

Cool that you're in Moncton, Maritime Biker. I'm there quite often - my girlfriend's family is in Riverview. Plus I like to stop by Atlantic Motoplex to see what's new and exciting on their showroom floor.

I know all about the winter withdrawal... it usually leads to midnight eBay purchases and used and abused credit cards. ;)
 
Atlantic motoplex helps too. Just going in and sitting on some shiny bikes and making vroom vroom sounds ;D I want to find a monster in the 1-2000 range that isn't beat to death. It will be a while before the old 620's hit that range and it will likely be out of the US. But I can be patient. I am pretty much broke and bike stuff ends up at the bottom of the list of purchases. My bike cost me 650 and has about 300 more in tires and parts to be road worthy. When I can find a Duc like that I will be happy, may never happen. Well that or my wife finds a good job and then we won't be broke anymore ;D thanks for the link, I will check it out.

Just a heads up, the ECDC will be having a little get together during the Moncton bike show in February. If you're interested in meeting some of the local Duc riders and enthusiasts you've very welcome to stop by the gathering. Details will be posted on the club forum when they're finalised.

On the (relatively) inexpensive Duc note, you can frequently find older 90's era Supersports for around $2000 in the US. Similarly-aged Monsters seem to hold their value slightly better than comparable Supersports so you might want to short-list SS's as well. My dad has a '96 900SS/CR which has tons of curb appeal and rides extremely well. Great bang for the buck IMO.

Cool, good to know, I check Craigslist in ME and NH all the time. I have seen some deals but had no cash at the time. I am so broke it isn't funny. I am hoping to have some disposabel income in May when we go to NH fro vacation. In-Laws have a time share for a week in the North Conway area and my father in law has a trailer now so..... May be a cheap Duc in the future.

hey marcus - welcome to the site - im fairly new to this site as well. I live in Halifax. Have to hook up for a ride sometime. I'm currently rebuilding a 77 XS650 into a cafe...

sweet! So glad I joined this site....great networking!

I got my XS torn down right to bare frame as we speak. Got some primer on the frame and going to paint soon. Before frame paint I'm gonna attempt to build a fiberglass seat/cowl. Should be interesting, never really touched the stuff before. Was thinking of maybe putting a CB200 or honda dream tank on er in place of the lil peanut style tank I have now. See if I can come across one anyway.

Your bike looks killer by the way!! Super sleek cafe. That musta taken alot of work as well!

Thanks for the kudos, Tunz. It's been a long evolutionary process getting my Monster to where it is now.

I'm really keen to see your XS! Love to see a bike completely torn down and rebuilt from the frame up. Hope you're detailing the process in pics.
