Whats up people. I just got this 76 RD400 a few nights ago. Not gonna do to much to it, definitely put a seat on it Probably a RocCity and also some clubmans or clip ons. I'm not really sure how I'm supposed to ride this thing cause it's my first 2 stroke e.g. cruising RPM, engine braking, but I took it out last night and had a blast. The RD is definitely quicker than my xs650 and obnoxiously loud. Any advice or experiences with my new my bike would be a big help. Anyone have an rd400 with a RocCity Daytona or Roadracer seat on it? What about making your own?

wow that is a very clean bike, RD400s are also pretty rare from what i hear, you must have either paid a pretty penny or lucked out and got a steal?

anyways goodluck...i am currently working on a 72' DS7(RD250) myself!

Thats a spiff looking machine! Go easy with it to start with man, those things are renowned tankslappers.

No Kidding on the tank slapping. I felt it a little the other night as I was gettin it from 1st to 3rd. Would a damper help or is it the nature of the beast? Seems like the motor was a little to much for the handling in it's day. I got an amazing deal on this bike, found it on craigslist an hour from my house. When I got to the guy's house to look at it he had 8-10 mint 70's hondas. 550's 750's 360's a BMW. He had quite a collection and this was his only yamaha or 2 stroke. He only had it for a week before deciding to sell it. Two people called before me on it but I was the first to see it. He kicked it and it started on the first kick, Done deal!

Ya man... A dampner would really help. Look for a gsxr unit. You can usually find ones pretty cheap on ebay. Welding in some frame braces would help too.

A damper would do wonders to the handling, and might just save you some titanium plates down the line ;D

Not to discount what Vonyinzer said, but sometimes after-market dampers are the way to go, don't ask how I learnt this :'(

Giving the bearings in the steering stem a check and tighten might keep you steadier too.

Cheers to tankslappers! TANKSLAPPER! MAM 6/28/10
