Hello my name is Ben. Just bought a 81 kz550 ltd for 300 that I'm going to make more fun ride. I'll probably be making a build thread sooner later has the progress comes along but I've got a couple of ideas for it. the Douche p.o. had put a abattery in that was only putting out 8.8v and wrong spark plugs but I got her going

Ya, welcome.

If that's all the po did, consider yourself lucky. I've seen sticks and leaves inside engines, sheared caliper bolts, etc.

he pretty much bought it, replaced the carbs and let it sit since last july until i bought it last week. when i went to look at it he had a hard time starting it, cylinder 4 wasn't firing. now i know i why, had hot plugs instead of cold plugs and two of them were missing their connectors

I'm going to keep an eye out for what your doing to the bike, i just bought my first bike this past sunday and its an 81 Kz1000 ltd. I'm new to the bike world when it comes to maintenance, so i'd love to see where you find parts at.

i'm new to bikes but i'm a auto mechanic so it should be fun. as for parts, the best place so far is ebay for parts. i found rims, swing arm, front and rear brake caliber and master cylinders for 120 bucks. local salvage yards too but they are kinda behind doors and really have to dig to find them

Lol, i guess we are in the same boat then, i was actually a submarine mechanic in the navy and do all the work on all my cars. I'm more used to diagnosing electronic stuff on vehicles for the diagnostics. I haven't done much work with carbs though. This is all a learning expierence for me, but i know I'm going to have fun. I always seem to pick the harder to find parts for vehicles, its like i was telling Big Rich, i have alove for inline six's which in all honesty is not the most common type of engine these days. Anyways good luck with the bike man!

Yea actually I'm vehicle mechanic in the air force. Right about i6 though BMW seems to be the company making them anymore
