Hey guys. I just wanted to introduce myself and ask a few questions. My name is Ryan Melton and I have been riding my uncle's honda twinstar 185 for a few months now, and want to get a bike that i can mod and make my own. There is a 73 honda cb400 for sale by me for $1300, it has 9000 original miles and looks to be in really good shape. Hopefully I will get a chance to take a look at it this weekend. Is $1300 a fair price for it? I want a running bike, that I can ride and eventually want to take it apart and do a full rebuild cafe style. Will the cb400 be good for that?

Thanks for the input,
Ryan

Hey.. Welcome to the site..
Are you talking about a cb400F? - Four cylinders?..
If so, thats a total steal of a price!!... Just grab it before some else, (like Druro), does...

I'm not sure if it is the cb400f... I just sent the seller an email asking. Can you tell from either picture?

those pictures look like a cb450T, not a cb400f.
Its a good bike.. Still a decent price..

I recently built and sold a 74 cb450:

Hey Thanks alot for the quick response!

That bike you built is very similar to what I want to do. Nice job, it looks sick!
If I do get this bike I'm sure I'll have a lot of questions for you.

er guys judging from the points cover, tank, pipes, i think that's a cb350 not 450, you'd be able to see clearly the dohc on a 450,
it's still a good price if it runs smoothy,

Could be.. if those are the pics of the actual bike for sale.... Saucer would know...
My only advice would be for you to get it before Druro does... ;D.. he's been known to have his butler fly out to New Zeland on the company Lear just to acquire a parts bike at his fancy...

if those are the pics of the bike then it's a cb350 for sure, carbs are different on the 450,

welcome! i'm south of you in Roseburg! btw, yesterday on i-5 southbound at mp 102ish i saw a black cafe... the rider was wearing a dark red pack. anyone?

don't pay more then $1000 for that bike. It should run good, and be pretty clean(remember 30 years old.) It's almost winter here and you'll start seeing bikes on craigslist for cheaper and cheaper until next spring. I bought my 78 550k for $800 last spring, and it ran okay, after about $500 It's cafed and runs great. Still a project though...

If you want it now, then you'll pay whatever you feel is right. But if you really want a bargain then you can wait and work on the price. Your area is also lower in demand of these bikes, then mine(portland/vancouver area), so you have less people looking for your next dream bike.
