Hey Guys
Been building and riding cafe racers for some time. I started with Yamaha RD's , now riding a Yamaha XS650, and a 75 Honda CB400F Super Sport. I turned 60 last summer, bought a crotch rocket (600FZR), decided to flip it, and go back to old school bikes. I always fabricated my seats, having a forum just for seats is a real treat. I just found this site, and I thought I was the only guy with a TON UP logo on my tee shirt.

how are those RDs? im debating between a 78ish rd400 or a smaller CB. any pros or cons between the RDs and CBs?
thanks

If like to go fast get the RD. My RD will eat most if not all CBs alive. What a rush. I'm used to riding xs650's but a few years ago I started collecting RD's. Last summer I think I rode my 350 more than the 650. I need to take some new pics. I just put some new tires on and it looks much better.

welcome, the RD was big back in the uk, RD350 twostroke fast, bloody fast, ;)

Not that there is ANYTHING wrong with CB's. I love 'em. Very nice bikes. RD's are just faster. ;D

what about being two strokes?
i hear they are much more temperamental. can be a pain sometimes or lots of times. im not looking to build a race bike. reliable is more important to me.

What joe said. The Rd's are faster, just as reliable, cheap to rebuild the top end. Fouled plugs is a cheap fix, no cam chain issues etc. etc. Expansion chambers, rear sets, and a seat, and your good to go. I just picked up 2 CB400f's, one is stock, the other has rear sets, header, clipons, and a cafe seat. I 'm waiting for spring to get some riding in, I really enjoyed my RD's.
For some reason, I see a lot more CB's than Rd's in central NY.

Hey Joe, you want to post up some more pics? i'd love to see more of the bike if you've got some on your computer. i was searching last night and stumbled across it

Welcome Don. You mentioned that you build your own seat, any pics? If you have the time please post some details on how you built them in the Seats and Tanks section.

Old guy... old bikes... perfect fit! ;)

From one to another, welcome! ;D
