Hey guys, my name is Jeff. I'm from Greenville, SC. This is my first bike build ever, so i've been taking it slow and trying to do it right. I'm pretty sure I'm in way over my head. I bought a '74 550 for $700. Here goes.

So far I've replaced the forks and shaved them down, lowered the front suspension 2", stripped down all the bullshit, bondoed some dents out of the tanks, rebuilt both wheels with new buchanan spokes, new tires, and spent a lot of time polishing various things.

I just got my mac 4-1 exhaust in, so that's going on this week. I'm building a new seat and relocating the battery, so i've been cutting brackets and shit off the frame. A friend is going to help me re-wire everything, then hopefully i'll be ready to ride by the time its warm again. The engine runs like a champ, so i'm going to leave that alone until next winter.

Looks great! Are you going to run the clubmans up like that or is just that way in the pics? Looks a bit uncomfortable.

Sweet. It looks like you have a nice shop to work in. When we get our bikes back together we need to go for a ride. It looks like you'll be done first. I work near JL Mann and live in Mauldin. I'm up in Greensboro on an assignment for a few months though.

Nice, I actually live really close to JL Mann. The shop I work in is amazing. A friend of mine runs an aero-engineering business out near donaldson and we work on the bikes there.

I'm running an avon speedmaster on the front and a firestone on the back. Yeah, those bars are weird right now, I think they just moved up like that while pushing it around the shop. I'm definitely going to flip em around.

At Donaldson?......Is that Stevens Aviation?

When I had my bike running last year, I would go ride around perimeter rd on my lunch breaks.

I'm an aerospace engineer. I work at D3 Tech in the same building as the new Virginia College.

Welcome man! The bike looks good, can't wait to see it finishes. I am working on a '74 550 myself. Could you tell me the sizes of the tires you are running. They are the look/style I would like to run on mine.

The front is a 3.25 x 19 avon speedmaster

rear is either a 4 x 18 or 3.50 x 18 coker firestone deluxe champion. I can't remember off the top.

I am really happy with the way these looked. They're not traditional cafe tires, but they look great.

Also, Flug, my buddy's shop is called BMI, its right off perimeter road. Did you go to any of the bike nights at the handlebar over the summer?
