NewB in NE Ohio

Coast to Coast
Hey guys , new to the boards here. I just recently picked up a 72 CB500 for my cafe project. It had all of the usual 70's crap bodged onto it- drag bars, sissy bars, wack ass paint job, etc. So far I've rebuilt the front end,(new triple trees, reconditioned the headlight, etc). I removed the rear fender assembly, all lighting, aux. footpeg triangles wacked off. I've also started foaming up a seat using the old seatpan .

A few other improvements:
Made a custom speedo bracket to eliminate the tach.
Removed the idiot light cluster and then cut the bar clamps from it
Removed the stock headlight ears and replaced with aftermarket style
New fork gators
new clubman bars and grips

The motor will remain pretty much stock except for a Mac 4n1 pipe and k&n air pods, plus a carb rebuild and upping the jet sizes. I'll also paint and polish whatever I can on the motor

I want to paint this bike white cuz white bikes are rare and I'm thinking of going with a Japanese theme-I'm calling this project the Rising Sun.

I'll post pics as soon as possible but right now I'm busier than a cat burying shit in the sandbox.

Welcome to the site man! There's quite a few guys from Ohio on here, check it out. Can't wait to see some pics!

Welcome! I had a 72 CB500. Cool bike. Better than the 750 in some peoples opinions. Get some pics up here! Theres a bunch of Ohio guys like R said, and he and I as well as some others are in West PA so not too far either.

Welcome! Your already a lot further along than I am :P There's a few of us that are trying to get a Cleveland group going. Keep watching and keep in touch. It looks like Tuesday nights at Melt in Lakewood will be a regular thing again this summer- I never made it last year, so I'm looking forward to it as well. Anyway, watch the DTT-Ohio thread.

Cool, Matt. I hope to have the bike done and plated by Memorial Day. That's the plan anyway.Meanwhile, I just found a '76 CB550 for sale or trade on Craigs and emailed the guy. I have a like new Chinese enduro I want to trade the dude for it. Keepin' my fingers crossed. Ain't that the way it goes? I have one bike that's in pieces and I'm looking to bring home another! Talk about cart in front of the horse.Lol. Can't let a running CB go buy without at least trying to buy it.

I also have a friend with a downed Sportster 883 and after seeing my project he wants to caff that bike. Then he called last night and said he's looking at CB750's. He's got the bug,too so there may be two more local boys from DTT at the Melt this summer. Hope to see you there.

As soon as I get some decent pics and a bit more progress I'll start a thread in the Big Arse section.

Here's a pic of the CB500. I'm waiting for parts so today I relocated the fuseblock. It now lives under the frame, beneath the seat. I also plan on mounting a battery in the seat's baby bump. I like the way cafe's look when they are sripped down as much as possible but still wish to retain my electric start. Sorry about the pics, I need a new camera. My last camera was destroyed in a drunken fiasco last summer and has never been replaced. I'd rather spend my money on bike parts. ;D
