No thrust washer. How bad is that ?

hi guys,
while disasembeling the engine i noticed that the thrust washer was gone. The engine was running before. Now it's time to get everything back together, but I just can't find where can i buy that washer. Even eBay is no help here. No autoshops here have any in these exact proportios (1mm thickness and 22mm inncer circle diameter).
As I said, the engine was running without it before. How bad can things be if i reassemble it with no thrust washer again? The season is open and i just can't wait anymore :/

I worked on a 360 engine from a customer whose p.o. placed the washer on the wrong end and it destroyed the left two cam lobes and rocker arms because it was running offset

Yep, this. A machine shop would be able to make one for 1 or 2 dollars, or whatever the equivalent of that in lithuanian money is.

I just disassembled my CB360T and I'm pretty sure I didn't have a thrust washer. (I'm out of town at the moment so I can't check) I should definitely get one though

Ok, so after reading the manual I think you only need a thrust washer if the clearance is not between 0.07 - 0.3mm. But I think the clearance on mine was about 1mm. Just eye-balled it tho.

check the manual, it requires the shim to properly align the cam in the head, if you don't run it, the cam will be offset and will not fully support the rocker arm faces, they will wear out and the cam lobes will wear out. also, make sure the thrust washer is polished on both sides and made from a hard material (bronze, steel) or it will abrade the face of the head where it rides. I don't mean to sound like a know it all, but I went through about 5 revisions to convert my 360 head to bearings, so I know probably every way it can fail

I hope I'm wrong, but, it looks like you need to take the head back off and fit valve springs properly, the 'closed' coils go towards head, not retainer

Damn, I hope you are wrong. Can you crazypj or someone please tell me if they really are wrongly fitted ? I dont seem to see a difference in my engine manual, although it's really poorly printed :]

Looks like you're fine on the intake side, but I can't see the left exhaust side. Right exhaust side looks backwards though. The end of the springs with the tighter coiling should be next to the head, and not against the retainers.

You guys were right. That one is really upside down :/ I don't know how long the previous owner drove like this and without thrust washer, but I really hope it have not made too much damage.
Anyway, thank you very much for the warning!

Any way to remove and install that spring with home tools ?

It's not too difficult. I highly suggest picking up a spring compressor. You want the C-clamp style.
