Non leather riding Jacket?

Ive searched around and I cant seem to find much unless its more modern in which I dont want. Ive been vegetarian for 16 years and I dont really want to buy leather if I can avoid it. Obviously a canvas gasoline jacket or a denim jacket would probly be a good substitute however I dont think those will provide too much protection. Any suggestions?

I have an Alpinestars Stella jacket that would be pretty unassuming with the logos stripped from it. Well made, very comfortable, and pretty inexpensive.

There are quite a few classic looking textile jackets out there in a wide price range.


I just got my wife a Triumph Belgrave jacket which is very nice looking and has full armor in it.


Belstaff of course is an option, at the highest end of the price range. Lots of choices there with armor.


Quick look at www.motorcycle-superstore.com brought up a number of choices like the $70 River Road Trekker, a Tour Master etc.

I can vouch for the Tourmaster Rincon- on the second season with mine and love it, great in cold weather, and vented well enough for warm days as well. You could also look at the Joe Rocket Hemp jacket, I've tried one on and was impressed with the comfort.

I just bought a waxed cotton Rev'It Melville and am digging it. I had looked on Revzilla and one other place that I can't remember but they were sold out of all sizes, both colors. Found it on a site calle Motorcycle Superstore in the brown finish I was looking for. Great looking jacket, less than half the cost of a Belstaff (which is still my dream jacket, but I'm not enough of a baller yet...), has fairly light elbow + shoulder armor and a pocket in back for a back protector. I've only worn it twice to date, and only around town, but I'm very happy with it so far.

Being vegan I'm also avoiding leather.. the hemp jackets look cool, gonna get one of those.

I have a mesh jacket, with armor, love it. The first one I had, did quite well when I went down on a sportbike. I only wear it during the warm months due to it breathing well when you take the liner out. But I've zipped the liner in a couple times during the winter (30's-40's) and it keeps you very warm. It's the Cycle Gear brand.

Basically what you're looking for, better price than Belstaff and easier to find. You can also ship Barbours back to them for reproofing and repairs. I reproof my own jackets, but will be sending one in for patching soon.

I don't have an armoured one, but it seems you can get them as well.

I just got one of their balaclava/hoodie things for Christmas. Haven't ridden in it but it is top quality, very warm and looks slick as hell off the bike.

I never thought about Barbour for a riding jacket. Living here in Lexington, KY you've got every asshole with an interest in horses wearing Barbour quilted jackets and a pair of riding boots. You get really sick of seeing them and you start to associate the name with lazy rich fucks who are trying desperately to look the part. That said, I've got some hunting friends that swear by the Barbour brand.

My brother has a barbour jacket and I never really got into the style or felt it was that protective of a jacket. (His had no armor, though.) The throat strap and other stuff also seemed slow and awkward, and it was generally kind of blousy and flappy.

The Corazzo jackets have always seemed like a decent deal from the online-gazing perspective if they're high-quality...but holy crap...they're asking $275 for a SWEATER!!! The jackets I get. The sweater and other "lifestyle" gear prices, not so much. Whoa.
