Noob from Waterloo, Ontario

Hi All,

My bike isn't a cafe racer yet but I hope one day she will be. My lovely and very understanding wife bought me a '72 CB350 K4 K0 for my birthday last week. I've been drooling over pics of cafe racers for a while now (the June 2010 bike of the month is a good example) and she decided to let me do it. I know what you're thinking but, if you're married, you know what I'm talking about .

The bike isn't road worth at the moment but it does run so I'm thinking it will be a great starting point for a complete tear-down/rebuild. I've never done this before but I'm looking forward to learning all the ins and outs. I thank you all in advance for answering all the stupid questions I'll have.

My daily rider is an '82 CB750F Supersport. It's mostly stock with the exception of 4-1 exhaust. I just can't get enough of the vintage sport bikes. In my opinion they just look way better than anything being made today. I'm sure I'll end up on a Goldwing someday but but I'm way too young for that now.

Welcome Arnie, Don't knock the old wings, Pre-84 and you can have a nice sport tourer that most people won't know what it is. Check out the Big arse projects there are at least 4 or 5 nice nak'd wings being done.

Good point Maritime. I wasn't hatin' on the Goldwings, especially not the classic naked ones. I just haven't reached the touring stage of my life yet, that's all. With a couple young kids, my rides tend to be on the scale of an hour or less.

My dad is a long time Wing rider (his first was an '82) and he's been bugging me to restore a late 70's GL for a long time. Perhaps that will be my next project, assuming I make it through this one first.

I hear you on the no time for long rides. I've got to little ones under 5 so getting out riding doesn't happen often, and working on the bike typically starts after bedtime.

I'm not to far from you, just located in Guelph.

Can't wait to see what you come up with.

Hey Jay,

I took a peak at your blog. You've got lots of great tips on there, especially for a first timer like me. I can't wait to start getting my hands dirty on this thing. So far I've only had time to get the garage organized so I have a little room to store my shit. Like you say, only after the kids are in bed.

At least you have a garage, I'm in the basement of a barn outside fergus that I share with my Dad and brother so everytime I clean house they put something in. So it's a bit of a drag having to drive 15 minutes, unpack, work, pack, then drive home but it's better than working outside.

And thanks, lots of ideas/hints/tips have come from these guys here so I can't take all the credit.

Awesome to see so many locals on here. I"ll keep my eyes open for cafe's out on the road.

I can't take any of the credit for the condition of the 750; I bought her in that condition. I'm looking forward to being able to show off something I built myself.

I finally got around to starting a build thread. Not much there yet but I think the kids are both asleep so I'm going to hit the garage so I have something else to post!
