Hey y'all. Really enjoyin this site so far. Lots of really nice builds goin on. Its nice to see a few other guys out there with Honda 400's. Not too many of them in my neck of the woods. I bought my 81 CM400e about 5 years ago looking like this:

Then painted it and redid the seat in fibreglass to this:

Now the bike is in a few hundred pieces to be redone again, Cafe style. Cant wait for spring.

Welcome, another Maritimer!. With the same bike too. That rear end is fun trying to get the cafe look. I have mine half cafe'd and still need to finish. But it is a daily rider so makes it hard. What part of NS are you in. I ride to Halifax and the Valley in the summer.

Cheers

Same bike! Right on. Yeah im not too sure what im gonna do about the seat. I already lopped off the rear section of the seat you see in the second pic, cause I was gonna do a bobber style, then changed my mind too late. So I'll either buy a cafe seat, or mend the old seat and add a hump and re-upholster it. Likely the latter, cause it's cheaper.
I'm in Hali, where it's still possible to ride into December! Two years ago, i didn't put the bike away till Dec 18th!

Where are you at?

Moncton, just put the last bike away 2 days ago. There are a couple CM guys that bought roc city seats and they look killer and you don't have to cut the frame. I am going to go that route as soon as my wife gets another job, no funds so the project is on hold. At least it runs,

Cheers.

I've read a few of you posts and you seem to be knowledgeable with rejetting. I ditched my collector pipe and ditched my airbox so i can put small breathers on the carbs. Think I will need new jets?
I've looked at those RocCity seats. Saw a few on some CB's on here and they look good. I already chopped my frame though, about an inch or so behind the shock mounts, so I would need to figure out a way to mount the seat.

Yeah you gotta love keepin the bike out so late in the season! Too bad I didn't get to ride mine at all this season......

I got mine dialed in with pods and no collector, just some cheap emgo shorties I got of a parts bike. I have the 450 in my bike now as my 400 motor tanked because one of the oil channels was clogged and I didn't know it. You can get the jets for 2.00 ea and get a few different sizes to play with. I have the carbs from my 400 on the 450 and rejetted to 128 and it worked well. Runs well and revs smooth right to redline. Make sure you don't use liquid gasket when you put your sidecovers back on, the Previous owner did that on mine and some came off and plugged the oil channel and tanked one of my cylinders. I bought a complete gasket kit for 60.00 to get the side cover gaskets and others and it was worth it when I got the replacement engine. I am not sure what carbs your bike has but if you want pods and have no collector a +10 to the stock size on the main jet should have you running about right. POds and exhuast don;t change much at idle so the slow jet probably won't need to change. I had changed mine out at first and the bike wouldn;t idle at all, it was like 3000 rpm. Anyway, you can easily change out the jets with the carbs in place and a shorty screwdriver. Just drain the fuel bowls and pull them then the jets are right there. The best thing to do is do a sparkplug check. The Dans Motorcycle pages has a great run down how to. Google it, he has a lot of good advice. Good luck getting her running, and hopefully we have an early spring, I am already missing the riding and only stopped last week ;D

Cheers,

I do have the paper gaskets for the side covers, in case I need to take them off again, i dont want to have to scrape the liquid one off. Thanks for all the info. Good stuff to know!

Peace
