OI! Another bike!

Picked this up today in Stratford. Theoretically it means an XS650 will be shipped to Winnipeg for Canadadan It better be quick or I'll be sleeping in the garage.

1971 XS650 - it's REALLY dirty and scungy. There's lots of very very nice chrome under all that grime - really! Electrics work (no signals yet but I think the battery is just really weak).

Check out the dual-shoe front drum brake - that's destined to go on my XS650 project with the alloy tank etc. Should look pretty all polished up with me in a crumpled heap beside it on Lakeshore because I rearended the truck in front of me No master cylinder to worry about at least on the clipons I still need ;D

Will be cleaning the blue 650 this weekend and disassembling the red one.

yep love those xs650's. i had one and should have never sold it. there is a guy near me that has a couple that i might be able to pick up at a reasonable price, they have become quite popular with alot of differnt crowds and it shows in the prices.

yep the cow looks all shinny. you better go ride it so it has a day of dirt on it.

There is a guy selling 3 XS650's on Kijiji. Has them posted all over. He wanted $1100 for a bike in similar condition to the one I bought + a 'parts' bike that didn't have much left on it. That's about 2x what I paid for this one.

He was asking $1900 for the running bike. Not bad I suppose if you want a stock 650, but I wanted the base for a project, not an already running finished bike to just shine up - that's what the Beemer is for.

Not many 650's for sale, that's for sure. There's one near Ottawa that looked like a great deal. Think it was $800 and a good runner. But 8 hours round trip adds a lot to the cost of the bike.

By the by, the points covers are off 'cause he wanted to show me it had spark. Left cover is for the points, the right cover is for the advance/retard adjustment.

Now I have my winter all planned out... one cafe'd black framed, bobbed chrome fenders and PINK tins XS650 coming up!

Well, the tank has already been bondo'd to cover up the emblem mounts. Get a GS450 tank though - good cafe tank for the bike. And a Radian swingarm (get two - I need one!). Bolts right on no mods and is stiffer than original.

BTW - the gaitors on the blue 650 are not stock - there to cover some minor pitting on the fork tubes (which won't be staying on the bike as they are specific to the drum-front end).
