One cylinder when warm; cb360

Been Around the Block
NEW ISSUE!

So the problem with the points plate i still dont know why it only sits flush in one spot. I ended up getting the timing set by just 'forcing' it to sit flush by burring the screws in. Great!

So now the bike hauls ass when its cold but when it starts to warm up while riding itll start firing on one cylinder and i get stuck trying to limp it home. My first thought was the battery but it stayed charged at 11v.

What could cause this? It seriously runs money when the bikes cold, snappy throttle, solid power band etc. I'll ride it for less then 10 minutes and then it'll start to fire on one cylinder. Sometimes it'll run on one cylinder and ill just give it a bunch of throttle and after a couple seconds itll jump back to two cylinders but only for a moment.

The bike wants to die when this happens and it takes a while for it to kick over again.

Typo? 11V is not good for a battery.

Choke stuck, maybe? Sounds like you could be running rich. Also, have you verified timing with a strobe light?

I've never checked timing with a strobe :-\ the choke isnt on so thats not a problem. 11v not good? It runs great when its cold and it charges pretty well so idk if thats the issue. Could something be in my carbs? Gah im running out of ideas.

I noticed you're in Oregon. How far is Beaverton from you? Haha

So im about to double check timing and pull the carbs off to make sure everythings cleaned up. Ill let you know if i find anything strange.

one of your coils are shot this same thing just happened to me look for my thread

just buy the 12v universal coil from DCC and the plug wire set and swap those old ass coils out

Before you buy coils check for spark. It's free of charge! In my experience it is damn rare that coils go bad. Have you checked the float level for that side's carb?

Damn i just bought new coils! I checked spark with the new ones and they're way stronger then my old ones so i have a feeling that the coils are fine. Gah i really hope its not the coils. haha the ones i have on the bike now are about 15k miles newer then my old ones and they're in excellent condition as far as what the eye can see.

I replaced them because i was getting weak spark on the left cylinder and i checked the coils by just jumping the wires/spark plug to the battery and i was getting rather weak spark on just one cylinder so i just replaced both of the coils.

I just got done cleaning the carbs. Again. I can't even tell you how many times i've torn apart these old kehins.

One of the diaphragms had a tiny tin size hole so i dabbed a small amount of super glue over it so hopefully that'll do the trick. I'm waiting for my battery to charge up so ill update the thread in a bit to let you know if its fixed or not.

Let me know if you get this fixed I'm having the exact same issue.
Pain in the ASS.

Okay so with the issues i've addressed in this post it ended up being low on fuel. So stupid i know! I put some decent size knee dents in the tank so i think it make have messed up where the fuel draws in from the petcock. I was about 1/4 from being empty and i ended up filling the tank to the brim and she ran exactly how she should.

So my suggestions? Make sure you have plenty of fuel when you're confused with these old bikes. ! :o

I cleaned my carbs AGAIN today, double checked the timing, tried to sync the carbs as best as i could and it ended up just being low on fuel.

Again, cant thank you guys enough for taking the time to try and solve this issue.

Well damn that doesn't help me hahaha

Hah what all have you tried so far? As far as troubleshooting goes. Timing is so temperamental on these twins, crazy how terrible the run when its SLIGHTLY off. Always weird issues with carbs not being synced either. Could something be shorting out?

Check your coils? I used this diagram to test mine. Pretty usefull!
