Paint ideas

Hey guys. So I'm deployed to Afghanistan right now but I just had my wife pick up this bike for me. I'm stoked about the bike but the paint isn't my style. I have thought about a few different paint schemes but wanted to see if some of you had some inspiration for me before I have it painted. I would like to have it painted and ready before I come home. Any ideas are much appreciated! Thanks!

BTW this pic was taken by the seller. obviously I cant walk out to the garage and take a new photo so this is the best I can do for now!

First off welcome to the site and stay safe over there.

Someone clearly spent a lot of time doing the current paint. You might consider putting the body work up for sale as a set and buy new bits to have painted. Know that would be tough while away.

Aside from paint any other cosmetic changes planned? Fairing is staying?

Looks like an aggressively styled bike with cafe racer inspired details. Thoughts on basic colours?

Thanks for the support Tim!

I actually haven't even thought of selling it as a set... my wife is actually pretty talented with a wrench, so that wouldn't be out of the question. The paint and detail are actually amazing. I might do that if she is up to it. Only set back is that as you can imagine all I have been able to think about while I have been here is getting on that thing, I don't really want to have a project first.

My top idea at the moment is to paint the tank and rear fender white or off white and the side panel and front fender black.

I am not planning on keeping the fairing. If you know or hear of anyone who wants/needs one id be happy to send it to them.

Just some more angles. Not a fan of the design on the rear fender. Just not my style

Seems a shame to paint over all that. I'd think a tank and sidecovers would be easy to find. Is that the style of seat you're ultimately wanting to run? Sort of a cafe bump style?

Might be other tanks that would fit too. Find pics of bikes you love online and post them up here. Lots of people on the site will chime in with ideas I'm sure.

It would be a huge shame. Someone put a lot of time and money into this paint job. I think I might have to sell it as a set.

I was thinking of doing away with the side covers and have been looking at some other tanks already.
I have been searching around for inspiration and this bike always catches my eye. This is the seat style and tank I would like to end up using.

Welcome to DTT. That gold paint is rad! Someone would definitely pay you good money for that body work.

Let me know how much you'd like for the fairing.Looks like it would work well with one of my projects.

Thanks for the welcome.
No charge for the fairing. We'll figure something out for the shipping. Just "pass it on."
Youre gonna have to be patient though. I cant send it till I get home, or if my wife feels up to it.

This bike was done at Gaston Motor Werks right down the road from me. The guy's name is Benjamin. Reach out to him at gmwerks1@gmail.com. He is a great guy and would love to talk to you about that bike I'm sure.

You could send him pics and ask him about how you can begin to shape yours like that, if you like it so much.

Also, as it's been said, welcome and stay safe. We appreciate you.

No problem, man. He actually rebuilt my whole motor. Knowledgeable guy and small business owner. Are you from NC or did you just happen across the photo?

Also, sweet bike. When you get home I'd definitely ride the wheels off it for a while. The paint is not my style for sure but it's not bad enough to keep me away from the bike because of it.

I'd do exactly what Tim suggested and sell them.

I was stationed in NC for a while but I just happened across the photo on google images.

I am stoked about the bike and no paint job is going to keep me from riding the shit out of it when I get back. I think im gonna get the parts that I want while im riding it how it is. when I get everything that I want ill have the new stuff painted how I want and sell this as a set.
I emailed your buddy and hopefully he'll let me know where he got some of the parts for that bike. especially the rear fender, that bike is sick!

Think that's a stock tank on those pics. One big challenge in making your bike look more like the one in the pics are the mag wheels. The other bike with spokes has an 18 inch rear wheel vs the 16 or 17 inch mag on yours.

Maybe the kz650 has easy swap spoke wheels?

Let's find Norseman a stock KZ tank to start off with. Someone out there has one hanging in their garage I'm sure. Let's save that paint and help someone who is doing a ton to help all of us on this side of the pond.

I think if you lowered that fairing about 6-8" that would be a slick little bike.
Not a fan of the paint either, so toss the runs up on eBay with a reserve and see what happens.

Hey thanks man. I appreciate everyone's help with this, and yea if anyone has a tank for sale that would be a huge help.
Also if anyone knows anything about the switching to spoke wheels that would be a huge help.
Thanks again!

I may have a tank... Waiting on a reply from a local friend.

As far as spoked wheels... It shouldnt be too difficult. I found some info, but I'm at work. I'll get it to ya asap.
