friction wear reduction, most modern pistons are coated now from the factory
i have been using it for 30 years and it does seem to make pistons last longer, that was the experience i had in my air-cooled 2 strokes
it used to be sold under the kalgard name but is now sold as "gearcote" from kg industries and from what i have researched the gearkote is the same formula as what i used which is the original "pistonkote" from kalgard back in the day
i had some friends that were sponsored by kalgard back in the olden days superbike and sidecar AMA racing, was how i got original knowlege/exposure to the product

Nice I will have to keep this in mind on my next motor rebuild,

Just wonder how good it really is... guess ill have to hit up google ;)

well pistons have worked just fine without a friction barrier for what 100 years ? but now you see it is common on oem to have moly coated skirts, it cant hurt and certainly with more precise fits, rounder holes, better piston design to control expansion etc.. hotter combustion chambers manufactures have found it worthwhile and i would bet that one thing it really can prevent is piston seizure for whatever reason .pistons sieze when they start to transfer metal because the oil film has been squished out.for whatever reason overheating cold seizure the expansion outta control..whatever... the moly coating pretty much makes that type of failure(seizure) a thing of the past and the oems like that idea with ever tightening tolerances to pass emissions... tighter pistons means less rocking which keeps rings well sealed
shit even oem harley pistons have used this type of coating for years

many years ago i did a set of pistons with this coating for a friends late model alky car, anyway they got the tune wrong ::) and melted holes thru about half the pistons....you know dam right them slugs got hot :-[
upon teardown the skirts looked as good as when they were put in no scuffing at all ;D the motor still cranked over, total cat-a-strofic failure was averted the block was still good on same bores.. amazing

finally got this motor done and test rode 30 mile today
started 2nd kick,runs fantansic ! no smoke,noticable grunt added ! at least a horsepower maybe 1-1/2 ;D
with all the work i did it is basically new
new cam chain and all the best spare very near new cylinder head parts i had laying about from 3 different motors
