Hello There! Ive been working on this Cb450 for a while now and Im typically lazy about keeping a journal about it, but I thought it would be nice to start a build thread. Last year, I purchased 3 super junked cb450s for a steal. All were incomplete rust buckets. Only one engine turned over. My plan was to try to make one nice bike with all the parts. My budget was thin at the time. If I were to start this project over, I would definitely have started with a better condition working bike. But I learned a lot along the way and have a lot more to learn. Im primarily an artist attempting to be a mechanic, so when we get down to the nitty gritty, Ive had to resort to picking the brains of friends and forums.
I'm not a complete noob, but I do understand my weaknesses. I have built another bike, but as you can see, I wouldn't really call it a motorcycle! I did build it from scratch though!
I also have a Bmw r75/5 that has changed configurations many times over the years.
And currently, my bomber is looking like this...
Color Scheme I chose is to have the frame a Dark Bronze and the rest is Flat black and polished aluminum.
You can see the bronze better here.
I did a lot of work restoring all the rusted old parts. I polished, sand blasted, and powder coated almost every part. I did this all on a crazy budget. I wouldn't recommend this as I don't want to be responsible for someone blowing up there garage, but to do this, I made my own sand blaster ($160), and powder coating setup that can do items as large as a motorcycle frame! ($280). Its the most ghetto and probably dangerous setup, but it works!
Currently I still need to clean up the wiring, finish the seat, restore/paint the tank, headlight, and seat pan. I also have to hookup the rear sets and tie up a bunch of loose ends.
What do you think so far???
