Pin stuck holding floats

Been Around the Block
I cant seem to get the pin loose that is holding the floats to the float bowl. Should I soak it in clean gasoline first to loosen up any grime? Im a bit scared to be spraying carb cleaner around there since the gasket is still in place and the float. thanks

I have the same problem, i heard to try immersing the carb in a pot of hot water for a while and it should loosen up. Important thing is don't take a drift and a hammer and try punching it out, this could break the posts.

I had one float pin on my cb750 carb bank that was stuck and I used a finishing nail the same size as the pin. I ground the tip of the nail flat and used a small hammer and gently tapped until the pin came loose. You dont want to damage the towers that hold the pin so take it slow and easy...... BG

you can also soak in oil, Vinegar, Pinesol, or anything else that isn't harsh enough to eat the plastic or rubber. use oil once all the goop is removed. Pinesol works well.

once you have soaked it for a day or so, use a little heat and try to tap it out GENTLY if it doesn't move easily.

First, what is the bike.
Second, does the pi have a flange on one side or is is a straight through?
If it is a straight through, you can soak it in anything like carb cleaner which seems to be the best.
If it has a flange you need to be careful and fist soak it, then press a very sharp knife between the edge of the flange and the post. GENTLY!!!!!!! then wiggle the knife to slip the pin from the posts.

An automatic/spring loaded center punch like the one below works the best for me.

You push the tip of the punch into the pin and when you reach a certain force level, a spring loaded hammer trips and strikes the punch. This works well because you don't have to pry against the carb body and risk breaking one of the legs that hold the float.

The pin on a CB360 is not flanged. HOWEVER< the vibration can wear a groove in them and cause it to be difficult to remove. If you try too much porce, you will break the tower holding the pins.

Try wiggling with a needle nose pliers. Keep a steady side force on it as you wiggle.

The come out easily usually, unless your carburetor is really corroded.

Mystery oil will work. If it is that stuck, don't try to force it. Soak it and be patient. Time is a tool too. Don't ignore it and let the oil or chemicals work. It took years to get the pin stuck, it may take a few days to get it loose.
