Pipes and some performance mods for my honda 360t

Hey guys I just picked up a 74 Honda 360t. The mufflers are a little messed up on it so I wanted to know would it be in my best interest to get a full system like head pipes too? Is there a performance gain in an after market head pipe? Or just get some new mufflers with the stock head pipes? And would some pod filters help out in the performance side of things or are they just for looks? Thanks!

I doubt you'll see much difference between just switching out the mufflers and going with a full system. Thing to remember is that Honda's engineers really did their homework on these motos and you'll want to stay fairly close to original design, if you want to keep performance and not kill it. Keep the exhaust about stock length and you should be fine, if you go shorter you can potentially lose some power.

Pods are a whole different discussion, they can be made to work but you must be diligent in your approach to tuning. There are tonnnnnnns of informative threads on this site on that topic, I suggest you do plenty of research before making that move. While they can be made to work with most bikes, they can also be a major pain in the ass.

Any changes to intake or exhaust will likely require slight changes in jetting or tuning. Do some homework on carb theory and plug chops to see how the changes you make to your filters and exhaust will affect your jetting at certain throttle positions.

Good luck and let's see that 360 when you get a chance!

First bit of tuning would be to send the carbs to CrazyPJ on this forum and have him mod them for K&N 1820 filters. You'll be amazed at how much that will liven up the bike. Secondly, I'd consider lengthening the exhaust. These bikes do much better with a longer exhaust. Do not go with a shorty.

Thanks guys! Would a 2 into 1 system be better or stick with the 2into2? Any long muffler will do? And I really want the pods so I can ditch all that stuff around there. I'm pretty good with carbs is there a how too?

There's a carburetor tuning sticky somewhere on this forum, forget where. Read it a few times.

Mac is better than nothing, but for the money you can certainly do better. Hit up eBay and CL, there's tons of stuff out there. Stick with name brand, Jardine, Bassani, etc. Quite a few guys on this site could put something custom together for you, if you want to go that route

This goes on my 360. Used a pre-bent kit and a collector from cone engineering.

Twins really like a 2:1:2. As another mentioned they live large muffler volume/length.

All that said don't expect huge gains as it's a pretty mild engine.

Stock, it's a pretty torquey engine. Stick to 2 into 2 like stock. I had a 2 into 1 MAC system....Load, did not run well...I also went with Pods, UNI Foam and and back to stock. With the stock carbs, the bike runs best with the stock airbox and stock exhaust.

I through away the pods and the UNI's are sitting in a bin in my garage. The bike starts on a kick, runs well, and goes fast enough. I don't race, so ultimate mods are not for me. I want the bike to start and run well and reliably. That is what I have.

The exhaust should at least go past the rear axle for best response. See my build at the end....That is with after market EMGO mufflers (upswept) on stock headers.

They are not too load, but sound nice with the stock headers....
