Possibly Another Project.. CB360T

Been Around the Block
OK so I found a '76 CB360T for sale here in town, which finding any vintage honda for sale here in jacksonville is a rarity. i need as much information as possible before i go look at this thing either later today or tomorrow. stuff my brain with wads of CB360 info. what are common mis-haps? what should i pay extra close attention too? the bike doesnt run, but the guy claims it did when he purchased it a year ago, its just been sitting. prob just a dead battery and cleaning of the carbs and some new plugs? i know all the basics i guess im just asking the specifics to the CB360, if there are any? the faster i get some info off of you guys the better i will feel about going to look at this thing... hit me up!

so i got some more info out of the guy ( i didnt get to swing by and look at it this weekend ). apparently it needs... new handlebars (have clubmans already), carbs cleaned, tank cleaned, prob a new battery or atleast a charge and he also said it has a few nuts and bolts missing as well as the shifter. so my question is... how much do you guys say its worth. im going to look at it later in the week. let me know... THANKS!

I just bought my first bike, a 1975 CB360T.

I haven't encountered any gotchas I can report, but I can say this. Check for the cam chain tensioner recall. If the recall was applied at the dealer there will be 2 dots, one above and one below, on the VIN's hyphen. I don't have that recall applied, so I am planning to adjust the cam chain tensioner regularly. Otherwise, any info you can share will be great for me as well. ;)

i heard the recall was for 74-75 but i could be wrong.

oh and the front caliper prob needs to be rebuilt.

i heard for the most part rule of thumb is $1 for every cc... so somewhere around $360, maybe a little less since parts are missing.

ok so i finally got around to going to look at it in person. he originally wanted $500 but he relisted on craigslist at $400. i still think i could talk him down a bit. it DOES NOT run and it needs the following: handlebars (have a set of clubmans sitting), clutch lever and left grip, possibly a new wire harness for the right side of the bars (he cut the wiring :P), rear brake cable, front caliper rebuilt, tank needs coating, shift lever, side covers, carbs cleaned and all the other basic maintenance (to see if that gets it running). the only thing that scares me is at one time he did have it running but never actually rode it. are the 360's common for clutch or trans problems?

i would much rather purchase something that runs for more money but at the same time i wouldnt mind working on the bike, i just dont want to get into chest high water when im only looking for something ankle deep.

oh ya.. here is the link to the listing

does have a two-one exhaust! :-\

man, thats alot of crap to fix. i bought my 74 360 running for 475 and all it needed was the top gasket replaced, and the front caliper rebuilt, and he gave me a whole gasket set....

i wouldnt give him more than 370 for it. all those things you said that needed..... dispite it not running..... will cost you ballpark and extra 300 tops. and then on top of that labour and trying to get it running. there might be better deals out there if your willing to travel a little bit.

trust me i know its a good amount of work. i was going to offer him $1 per CC (360). they guy was cool and he said he wanted to see it go to somone that was going to fix it up nice. i can honestly hack at most of the stuff myself. the only thing that sorta scares me (because ive never done it) is the internals on the motor (if needed) and the clutch etc. cosmetics are nothing. but as far as finding something else... florida (the south in general) SUCKS for vintage honda's. i have only run across a few within a 300 mile radius and they are either too much for my budget or gone by the time i find them and contact the seller. im willing to throw some money into it, i have about $1100.00 saved up, i guess im just hoping somebody will say DO IT! haha, no but really i just want everyones opinions on its worth and any normal problems with the 360's. thanks again!

honda fan... always have been. the only cars i have ever owned have been honda's (crx, civic, prelude). not anything against any other jap bikes or any bike for that matter, i know they are just as good. i just wanna stick to my roots, haha.

that's ok, i was just thinking theres a lot of bikes that would be better then a cb350/360. not that i'm hating on them. i own one, it's just that i realise now i could have got pretty much any 70's or early 80's bike and turned it into a nice ride

disc... the caliper and possibly the cylinder needs "rebuilt", those are fairly cheap though. do they tend to have issues?

ok.... well thats the thing. the 360 disc is kinda flaky. "thinking" it needs to be rebult is alot diffrent from "cleaning out the caliper and master cylinder and replacing all the fluid" when you walk up to the bike, check for fluid in the resivoir. it might just need some DOT-3. if it has fluid, pull the brake. if she works fine, dont worry about it. if it sticks and doesnt retract you will need to clean it, and it may need a rebuild. if it doesnt even grab the disc, you have master cylinder problems, more than likely needs to be rebuilt (thats what i need to do) also, check and make sure the electronics are good on it. hook up your car with some jumper cables and check for a neutral light, headlamps, rear brake light, etc... if none work, might be able to haggle the price lower. also... ask how the bike was stored, bone dry, gas without stabil, or plane jane gas.... hopefully its either dry or he put stabil in it. more than likely, even if there was stabil, i would pull the carbs off and give them a good cleaning and float re-adjustment. check the jets too.... i had a bad prob with one jet... pain in the royal ass.

thanks! the caliper def locks up when pressing on the lever. he told me its done that since he purchased it. ive been told its fairly easy (fairly) to rebuild one. i think im gonna do it. im looking into all the stuff that needs to be done and how much the parts are. shoot maybe ill strip it down to the frame and do it right. keep the opinions and info coming!

Front brake is pretty easy to do, I printed out a copy of this walk through years ago from the sohc4 owners forum & still refer to it:

I say go for it!

I say go for it as well, but try to get it as cheap as possible. Here in Iowa there are plenty of old Hondas under $500, not so many with titles though and even fewer that run. All the ads tell you how easy it is to get a new title and how cheap it would be to get the bike running but if it were that easy they would have got a replacement title and got the bike running and asked for more money. Also the prices on these smaller old bikes is going up. People who don't want to ride mopeds or scooters are grabbing up these smaller displacement bikes in an effort to save gas.

ya EXACTLY and that is why it's SOLD... but not to me >:(

i let it slip away... i emailed the guy early today asking him the best time to stop back by (so i could make him an offer) and he responded back several hours later telling me somone bought it.

its put my eye more in the market for a 360 though. the search continues! let me know if you hear of something down here in Florida or even Georgia for sale (not likely).

if you live in Florida expect to pay a premium. i just sold my 360t in march for $1500. it sold in 11 hours. vintage bike are hard to find, especiallty in orlando and in miami forget it. anywhere else it seems they're a dime-a-dozen. but the shipping will kill you. i can't bring myself to pay 3 times what i paid for a bike to ship it.
