The weight is taken by the top mounting points, the CB motor will now pivot downwards from this point. The lower mounting point needs to simply stop the motor from rotating downwards. Pesto 4 "L" brackets and any motorcycle motor will hang off the stand.

Hey mate :) cheers for the write up. Yeah.. easy enough to follow... but because I'm feeling so lazy and have my new degree to get thru, I'm feeling a lil lazy LOL.. i.e. finding difficulty managing my time ;D So I might have to make do with my current motor stand.... my workbench LOL... well, at least until I have some spare time to give this a go. I agree.. Strap that mother down! But it is looking very very sexy indeed.. last thing you want is for it to be all f**ked up when $5 of strap could have prevented a catastrophe that would ruin your month if not year. One day at Honda, we pulled a VTX1800 onto the lift... the owner had been Armor-alling his tyres since he bought it... no-one picked up the shiny tyres... popped it in the clamp... the wrench had put it in nice and solid.... 5 minutes later.. we're all having a 5 minute briefing and then we hear this "BANG" and the sound of twisting metal.. the 600 lb + bike had popped out of it's vice, one meter in the air and then launched enough to land completely upside down... it wasn't strapped down. Lesson learnt.... no matter if it's a foot or a yard off the ground... 300 lbs or 600 lbs... always always always strap it... it's like insurance before you've even put it on the road ;)
But, like I said... sexy bike... protect it mate :)
 
i rode 80 miles one way to indiana to pick this up. Its a full exhaust to my katana. Just thought i'd share, i wasn't planning on having it hang off, oh well

dedication... or lunacy.. brilliant lunacy. I think most of us would take the bike also ;) Nice to see you have your priorities straightened out :) *thumbs up* Hope it was a fantastic ride... and not too cold or you.

btw... for all you yanks ;) HAPPY BELATED THANKSGIVING! Hope you guys had a nice time whatever you did.
 
Haha, thanks biker reject/oily_rag. It was a nice ride, 55 degrees (fahrenheit) which is rare for Turkey day around Chicago!

I now use TWO straps on my bench after one mysteriously broke and the bike was only saved by the fact I was underneath it at the time !

OK, like a turd I'd wrapped the strap round a sharp edge [ battery tray] and it effectively cut through when I tightened it up. Still use 2 straps though - one forward, one aft.

I always approach tying down a bike the same way as tying down a wowan... the more straps the beter, and always keep it away from sharp edges... I might be a lil kinky, but I'm not a masochist haha ;D

So read this last night about 11pm..I was at work finishing a project for a client...and I start to get a bit worried. I get home around 1am and hit the garage door opener...I see some red on the ground and my heart stops! I forgot I took the tank off and set it on the floor next to the bike.

So I took some tie downs and ran one on each side through the frame and connected them to the jack. I'm thinking I should put one on the front and one on the rear as well. I am now officially paranoid.
