powder coating dilema

Shortround

Coast to Coast
i'll make a long story short. i just bought a 1970 750 (chopper) on tuesday for $150. its a real mess, but it has a big bore kit in it, aluminum velocity stacks, finned covers, +6 inck fork tubes, and a couple of other things i needed to complete the cafe. other than that its a mess. i also have a 1977 750 i'm turning into a cafe. i just finished painting the frame fire red. my neighbor/friend desides he'd love to build a 750 so i give him the 70 frame. he did some work for an industrial powdercaoting company and the guy owns him several favors. i can get my frame powder coated for free. that's right $0.00
okay now the dilema. do i tear off the paint and powdercoat the frame? or just say f%ck it and start reassembly.

For sure powdercoat... you'll be happy you did. If you had already started re-assymbly it would be a tougher question... but since you haven't then powder it.

I have everything on my old three-wheeler powder coated now and don't regret it in the least. The stuff is extremely durable; it wears like iron. I even had the body panels done with a clear coat over the base metallic silver. When I tear down the CL360 it will be powder coated, for sure. To top it off I was quoted $400+ to prep and paint my body parts and the powder coat job w/ color and clear cost me $125. Well worth the time and effort, you won't regret it.

Before you go giving that frame away... is it modified? Have you checked the serial numbers? That frame and/or engine may be one of the earlier 750's.

i was going to keep it for later. i only paid $150 for it. i robbed the gauges, the sand cast upper triple, finned covers and aluminium stacks off it. he helped me pick it up and i could tell he wanted it so i gave it to him. i've already got my $150 worth out of it. it even has the gauges with the recessed neutral and oil lights.
