quick compression test question

1972 cb450 went to do a compression test and got a reading of 0....dont no if the gauge is broken or if my engine is really that bad...when i kick it or use the starter without the spark plugs in, i can feel air coming from the plugs holes which im assuming is what the compression tester is reading. Am i doing it right?

remove sparkplugs, insert gauge, open choke and throttle fully, use kicker or starter until maximum psi...btw i have everything times and adjusted...or so i previously thought now not so sure lol

test the gauge, what kind is it ? is it new ? is the shrader valve core missing?

put your fingr tight over a spakplug hole,crank engine
it should be impossible to keep it planted the compression shown blow it off
if so then the guage has some issue

the gauge is new, i bought it yesterday...ill try the finger thing, the valve core isnt missing...thx for everything. will let u knoow how it goes

so i tried the finger test and there was little pushback but not enough to push my finger out of the spark plug hole...wouldnt the gauge at least show some psi? just trying to figure out now if my gauge is broken...again thx for all the help and info its really helping me out.

Try it on the other cylinder, or another bike, or a lawnmower, or a car, etc...
