Rear suspension help please

Coast to Coast
Looking into ordering rear shocks from dcc this week but was curious to know what you guys end up doing when replacing the suspension. I have a 74 cb750 and was wondering if I should go with stock length or a little shorter. Also what are the advantages/disadvantages of going shorter? Thank you!

Shorter is bad. Especially if you don't do anything to the front to compensate. Shorter means more of the motorcycle's weight will be on the rear wheel, which means less weight on the front causing decreased braking power from the front and less grip on the front. It will also lengthen the rake/trail of the bike, causing slower turn in.

Basically, don't go shorter unless you're going to lower the front the same amount.

Some misinformation here.

Lowering the rear shocks only 1" will generally have little ill effect other than a harsher ride and less ground clearance. Front rake, and therefore trail will be affected slightly. Trail will be increased, so straight line stability will be slightly better, and cornering will require slightly more input from the rider. The effect could be slight enough to be barely noticeable.

Yeah. The shorter length sick would be less than an inch at most but I think I'll stick with stock

The length of 1" shorter is only the static length - need to consider what happens when you get on the bike.

Maybe the existing springs are 40 years old and when you get on the sag is more than your new springs which may or may not be the same rate.
