I recently acquired a 1980 Honda cb650 custom that im doing a few things too.
I have the air cleaner assembly out but am having trouble with the getting the air box out that connects with the carbs. I have pod filters im looking to put on.
This is my first motorcycle I've worked on, any help would be appreciated!

On that bike, I believe you need to remove the rear wheel and fender to remove the air box. It will not fit between the frame. If you never plan on putting it back in, you could always cut it out.

That one you need to push the boots into or squeeze them out then drop it straight down and slide out. The carb boots may be hard and need some working to get them off the box.

I've taken out the boots and still have trouble wiggling it out.

Carbs need to come out first. You did not need to pull the boots. In fact they need to be back in the box on reinstall.

I got the pods in!
Only now I have an issue with a vaccum leak. It won't rev oast 5k under load in first gear
Any guidance on that?

Welcome into the pod equipped 4 cylinder.

While they can be made to work, they are more restrictive than the stock air box and require lots of re-jetting. The center cylinders receive hotter air and a different air pressure than the outer cylinders, so the jetting for the center carbs will differ somewhat from the outer.

They look cool, but rarely work well....

If you want to run something other than the stock air box it is best to use velocity stacks which can be jetted easier than pods...

Pods are a downgrade in performance 95% of the time.
Stacks are a downgrade in other ways.

Its just people playing dress up and monkey see monkey do.
Wish more of the hobby was about actual performance, not just hipster pictures for the web
