Remove Neutral Only Start on DOHC 750

Is there a way to remove the neutral only start "safety feature" from my 79 CB750, while still keeping the dummy light?

I'd like to be able to start in gear (clutch pulled obviously) but I also like having the neutral light for reassurance in case I lost count of what gear I'm in. I have a wiring diagram, but thought a solution might be faster/easier to find from someone with knowledge of the issue.
 
It shouldnt be a problem at all.

You'll just have to look through the wiring diagram and figure out which wire to ground.
 
There's nothing wrong with a neutral start, but when testing it after fiddling with the carbs it will occasionally stall at the worst opportune times. It would be nice to have the option to start and go instead of having to quickly fumble for neutral start, shift back to gear and then go.
 
I have a hole in one of the mufflers so I won't be able to get it tuned perfect until I get that fixed, and I'm hoping to get through the next couple weeks of riding before i pull the exhaust and bring it somewhere to get the hole patched.

I've gotten it running much more stable now, but i'll have to do this whole process again come spring when it's all patched up and it would be nice to have the option.
 
Ok, new/expanded idea. I noticed yesterday that there is in fact wiring to the clutch lever which could mean a couple of things. I'm not sure if this wiring is working and I will have to test it, but there is the possibility that the clutch safety switch is broken or disconnected preventing me from starting in gear with the clutch pulled. There is also the possibility that it simply is not involved in the starter circuit which I would like to use this safety switch instead of the neutral switch (again for the starter only, not for the neutral light).

Does anyone know if the clutch switch is supposed to allow for an in-gear start?
 
Depends on the exact model, but yes, most of them do allow for a non neutral if the clutch switch is engaged.
This would fix your direct concern if so...
 
I always just bypass all the safety switches.
If I start it in gear without the clutch pulled, thats my own damn fault and I don't need a safety switch to tell me that.

This is the kind of thing I would "like" if there were a "like" button.

Yeah, I'd be looking at that switch on the clutch perch. If you jump the two wires, you should have power to the starter. If that works, your switch is toast. If it doesn't work, there's a problem with the wiring.

That's actually a good call, and a super easy test. I'll have to check that out...

Oh yeah, as I was writing this I remembered i just winterized the bike on Monday, and pulled the battery. I'll keep that in mind next time I go to work on it.
