Replacement ignition coils

When your ignition coil goes bad and the manufacturer no longer makes the same model and you cant find a used one of the same type what are your options?

This is a 6v points type ignition so cdi ignition styles are out of the question but i understand there are conversions?

Also the resistance of my primary is 1.5 to 3 ohms and the resistance of the secondary is 8 - 12 Kohms, if I buy a replacement coil does it have to match these numbers? The resistance is only specific to the coil right and not the ignition system itself. Thanks

I am by no means a pro,but from what I have been reading, you will want get within 10% of the original rating of your primary. I think if you are stripping your bike of incandescent lights and other electronics, you may be able to go less but I haven't totally learned that yet. You can call the customer service line at Dynatek and search their brain. They have been extremely helpful. Maybe they can point you in the right direction.

Match the same resistance. You will burn up points if you go too high with them (more draw). Dyna makes plenty of 6v coils with resistance from .5 t 6ohm resistance, single and dual tower. They don't get much better than dyna.

You want to match the primary coil resistance as close as possible without going lower then the stock coils. the lower the primary resistance the more current they're going to pull through your points. 1.5 to 3 ohms? You better remeasure! @1.5ohms the coils will pull DOUBLE the current as they would@3 ohms. to low a resistance you burn things up, to high and you don't get enough juice to the plugs; 1.5 to 3 is just to big a discrepancy, somethings wrong with your coils or your meter.
