Repositioning the rear shock mounts and a total Rear end overhaul.

Ok folks I'm in need of some quick and dirty advise for this build I'm working on. The long and the short is that the rear section of the bike is being rebuilt to raise the seat rails and straighten the lines of the bike. Ill throw up some pics later when I'm home but for now this link will have to do. This is not my bike but the design of the rear upper shock mount is what I'm after. Does anybody see any issues with this before I have my welder guy fab it up?

The mount will be a solid slug welded to 1" OD 1/8" wall DOM. The triangle will likely be gusseted as well.

I can see the top mounts being able to move sideways under stress / cornering loads, then eventually fatiguing and breaking.


You want to get the mounts right up in the join of the subframe and top rail........and you basically want longer shocks to make this work.

Thats what we decided would be the consequence of the proposed mount design, a cross member in the seat rails with small sections of tube braceing the mounts at an angle(sort of like an upside down pyramid) would prevent that.....but were just going to lower it.

raising the seat rails 2" would raise the shock mount, bringing up the rear wheel 2" resulting in a 2" drop when sitting on the ground.

then we're going to drop the trees 2" inches to match the rear end drop.
