Ok so I have this bike that I bought from my friends dad. it is a 1978 CB750k. The thing has sat outside since 94. Engine is ceased, and has a bit of mouse debris in the outer two cylinders, which probably is the reason it is ceased. Other than that the bike is in exceptionally great condition. wires are very plyable if that is the right term and not brittle, engine has almost no oxidation, carbs still have the plating on them. even the tank paint is still good and the inside isnt rusted. The finish is dull, which can be expected. Everything that I need on the bike is in good working order. I am just going to dump some atf fluid down the plug holes, kick it loose and start rebuilding.
Looks/Handling
What im going for in this bike is a modernized cafe/more streetfighter type look. I plan to put modern front end and swingarm with adjustable rate and damping shocks. I want to do a custom exhuast where the collector goes directly under the bike, and the pipe goes up in front of the swingarm in the middle of the bike and out of the back. kind of like the ducatis with 4 pipes all out of the rear but with one big one (probably 2.5", havent done the research yet) in the center. I definitely want to make it a two seater, with a 4-1 pipe I only have one can on the bike, 2 more will make it better
. I want to have a chin cowl on it as well as an oil cooler fitted inside it. I am unsure if I want to go with a fairing and windshield just yet.
To knock fab up a couple notches I have a thought on making a full custom body including a tank shell, and an aluminum tank inside (with fuel meter) as well as electronics and battery. To accomplish this I would have to cut the spine out, and build a frame to match the contour of the tank. I think it would look pretty good, it would match the lines of the lower frame going down from the headstock pretty well. color scheme would most likely be black frame, satin black body, neonish blue accents with white accents and white rims. not flashy but enough color to feel custom.
Engine
The engine needs a rebuild, I am kinda blind in this aspect, but I know of a guy at an engine shop that does really good work for cheap. I definitely want to get some more horsepower. I am not sure what would be my best route but im guessing I will have to bore over cause there will most likely be pitting in the cylinders from the mice infestation. Do i put a cam in it? mill the head? I will most likely put in electronic ignition. What other engine mods should I go after? This is going to be a slow process, which is good.
Foreground is my first build, 73 CB350G, with the 750 in the background
