Will a one piece fibreglass seat (with cowl) designed for a CB750 seat pan fit a CB550 seat pan?

Shooter, I am also in the market for a cafe seat for my 550 and from what I have gathered you will want to get the 750 one but it wont be a direct bolt on. They dont make ones specifically for 550s, I can oly seem to find bolt-ons for 400 and 750 and the 400 will be to small. This website has a ton of seats and each seat has measurements so you can find ont that first best, is doesnt have to be a 750 as its not going to be bolt on anyway. I have seen the ducati seat on a 550 and it look pretty cool

I am quite liking this at the moment

My bike is at the shop at the moment so I can not measure up the dimensions mentioned in the link. Anyone think this will fits a CB 550.?

@dminner - any chance you can do a frame measurement for me please?

I intend to make a hinged seat pan because the original seat is far too good to destroy for this purpose.

Whao.. nice seat..
It should fit but its gonna be short on the length. Unless you get a longer tank, that fiberglass seat is gonna look very short if you bring it right up to the tank.

i will get you some measurements when I get home. But like Noel said, I have to agree that it does look as though it will be aweful short unless you have a longer tank. How much will shipping be from New Zealand?

Seeley race seat.Manufactured in fibreglass. Will be suitable for many other types of Classic and Post Classic race bikes or for a road going cafe racer.Seat is made to go over frame rails 215mm wide outside to outside.Seat is 685mm long from nose to tail

If it fits the CB550 rails width (215mm) but was a bit short, I could make up the space difference in the seat pan that I will fabricate from aluminium is my thinking. I really like the hump shape on this one so will perservere with researching it. I am in contact with the guy that makes them now.

Shipping to the U.S woud be cheap I think - ask FedEx (you have the dimensions and the thing would weigh minimal - maybe 3-5 lbs max) Note these are NZ Dollars quoted on the auction and also he has other seats if you follow the traders other listings.

Should get my bike back this afternoon so I can follow through on this properly.

Noel isnt talking about the seat pan being to short, he was saying that you would have a space between your tank and where your seat ends because the seat is to short.. But no worries if I am calculating this right 685mm is around 26in, which should be a pretty good length. As for the width 215mm is around 8.4 in. which is fine for the front of the bike (which is right around 7.5). But, be sure to ask what the width is at the widest point because the rear end of our bike tapers to 9.5 inchs at the widest. One thing you want to keep in mind, you mention your seat pan. This goes over your frame rails so you will want to remove your seat and actually grind off the seat hinge to make it fit. I guess you could possible modify/cut the seat to rig up some hinge, but I dont know. I grinded off my hinge (so there was no turning back :D).

It is a nice seat, but if you look at the website I gave you you will be able to find a similiar seat with relatively the same price and not have to pay shipping from New Zealand, which I think it probably going to be quite a bit, it will be a pretty large box and I would be scared of shipping something fiberglass that far (I have had some trouble shipping fiberglass parts from Japan and arriving cracked). But just my 2 cents.

Here is a similiar one. A little longer (with a little shorter hump) for $75 buck buy it now:

This one is wider. 11 inchs at the widest so you might be able to get away with not grinding off your hinge.

Thanx for measurements.

Freight to NZ no problem for me because I live in New Zealand ;D. (Will cost me about $10)

I was thinking of extending the length (not the width) if there was space/gap between seat and tank.

Hinging a new seat pan is an easy little bracket fabrication.
