Shipping a motor... Reccomendations?

Shipping a motor from Ohio to Oregon. Not exactly sure what's most feasible. Its going to sell through eBay and have interested buyers already.

Honestly, I thought I'd have a couple days to figure this out before having interested folks...

Checked the UPS site but its looks way over priced compared what others can ship a motor for on eBay. It's a 1985 CM450 motor (2 cylinder and I'm going to weigh it for an exact number). I'm guessing around 150ish pounds?

Anyone have a company/shipping method to recommend?

You'll have to weigh it and make sure. The big thing is ground freight through FedEx and UPS has a limit of 150lbs. If it's more than that you'll have to ship freight and it will be much more expensive. You'll also have more in packing as you'll have to "palletize" it also...

I've learned from experience that going into a local office gets you screwed, even if it's the shipping center/dock itself. Print your slip from home through their website and you'll save money. I was trying to find the least expensive way to ship. Last time had issues with both companies. Ended up sending through FedEx for 129.xx because I needed to get it out asap and the 800 number said it was only supposed to be 72.xx so I had to file for a refund. PITA... I print ALL my labels from home anymore....

I shipped a suzuki t20 engine (250cc two stroke) for $85.00 from Indiana to Texas. It weighed about 100lbs. I used a new heavy duty Rubbermaid tote and one of those large white Styrofoam coolers (I had one sitting around) and I broke the sides down and used it for packing material. I also used about a whole roll of duct tape and that was it. I did not put it in a "box" or have it wrapped in cardboard...

Both companies have been about the same for me for shipping and receiving items.

I looked into having larger items like frames shipped before and IIRC the most reasonable rate was through Greyhound. There had to be a greyhound station nearby but it was like half the cost of the big carriers. Not sure if they have a weight limit though.
