Slow acceleration

I have a 73 CB750 with clubman bars on it. Nothing else modified that would cause this problem. (At least none I know of)
When riding, I have found that the bike doesnt want to accelerate when I roll the throttle.
The rpm's will shoot up and it revs high, but doesnt accelerate to match the throttle.
Any ideas or solutions to this?
The bike was sitting for a bit and the transmission wouldn't disengage when the clutch was squeezed, but that problem was taken care of with rocking the bike back and forth.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
 
id bet on getting new clutch plates AND springs. your clutch is most likely slipping under load. makes sense given it was locked up for who knows how long. previous owner couldve burnt it out and dulled/fused up the plates.
the springs have a certain unsprung length they should be and even 1mm out of spec and it all goes to shit, i know this.

only other ridiculous thing i can think of is your front or rear sprocket gearing is way out of wack.
 
Definitely the clutch.
Try adjustment per the manual first. If that doesn't work clutches are cheap and super easy to replace.

You adjust at the engine first and then adjust for slack at the lever.

Wait did it work fine before the bars?
 
Didnt really have problems with it until I changed the bars and the trans started acting up. Took the cover plate off and the clutch lever is fully pulling the cable connected to lever to disengage the clutch.
 
Well, all looks good... I made adjustment at the screw/nut behind the cover plate of the clutch (the one that adjusts the spring tension??) And all is working good. Think I might buy a clutch kit to have on hand just in case.
