Soaking carbs.

Hey guys,

Got the carbs off my CB360T and I'm cleanin em out and replacing jets etc.

My question is, can I soak them on the rack, or is it better to separate em???

Thinkin about a pine-sol soak or getting a gallon of carb cleaner.

Thanks!

I use the pinesol method and usually do the whole rack. Just inspect all of the connections between the carbs for damage/leaks.

Have you ever done carbs before??
If not, leave them in one piece and you are replacing jets because of??

Generally if your bike is going to remain stock with the factory air box and exhaust, jets can be cleaned and used again

Get a carb cleaner to soak in or if you can get them into an ultra sonic cleaner it would be even better

at a minimum you need a lot of carb cleaner spray and pipe cleaners etc to make sure all passages are clear. Visually watch to ensure the carb spray goes all the way through.....and wear eye protections...seriously it burns... 8)

Several sizes of this wire or safety pins can help clears passages but don't force too much it and make the hole bigger.

You are better off staying with the OEM jets than with an aftermarket kit, quality control can be a little sketchy.
Make sure to remove the emulsion tubes also.

I use the gallon can carb dip for soaking, then a good scrub, then use brake/parts cleaner spray and compressed air to clean out the passages.

We were talking abut this earlier! It's terrible when it gets in your eyes no good for the skin either but it's better to learn the hard way I think :P

Don't use wire or safety pins, way too large diameter for almost everything in the carb. >:(
Take carbs off mounting plate, remove all steel parts and opening link bar (don't loose the small parts)
leaving everything assembled will cause way more problems than it solves.
The felt seals on throttle shafts will get dried out (eventually the water will evaporate)
You will get corrosion inside the internal passages but carbs will look nice sitting on your desk (they will probably need major work to work nice on bike)
You need less than 0.012" diameter for pilot jets (0.35mm) and 0.60mm dia (around 0.024") for the cross drilled holes in emulsion tubes.
