Is it safe to use a soda blaster on gasket surfaces or will it damage the mating surface?

While soda is likely safe, the standard practice is to re-assemble empty engine cases to blast just to make sure the gasket surfaces stay pristine.
Also, can you absolutely guarantee that there isn't any possibility of a few grains of sand in your soda?
The risk is so great any time high pressures are involved, it is better to make the small effort to make sure...

It is a brand new soda blasting setup with soda blaster material, not the ag supplement so shouldnt be any sand in it. I'll just cover up the gasket surfaces to be safe I guess.
