Solutions to clear tire with the chain if running wider rear wheel setup

What are some ways to clear the tire if running a wide rear wheel (4 or 4.5 inches) 150 or 160 rear tire.

I already have things figured out for the swingarm clearance but I need some pointers for the chain.

I guess you can shim the sprocket out a little bit before the chain has too much angle? Maybe I can source and offset front sprocket?

I alo hear with spoke wheels you can move the rim over a little buy loosening the spokes and tighetning them on the other side... BUT that would put the wheel off center and screw with the handling.

What bike with what wheels?

You can make a spacer for the sprocket, yes, or you can spend ungodly amounts of money on an offset secondary drive unit, or just don't run that wide of a tire.

Yes, horribly. Do NOT do this, you will die a horrible, gasoline soaked, scorching death!!

It's GS400S that currently has cast wheels. Bought a GS250 rear wheel (17in spoke wheel) fNow I want to fit a a wide rim from a supermoto onto the factory GS250 hubs)

Why go thru all the hassle? A 130/90 would probably fit easily, and maybe even a 140. If it's about "contact patch", just get a sport bike tire - your GS400 won't be putting huge G forces on the tires anyway.

Because I want that look. Wide rear spoke wheel will look sick on a small bike.

Maybe not everyones cup of tea but it's what I am seeking.

Well, the GS450 L ran a 120/90-16 tire with no problem. And the modern GS500 runs a 130/70-17 (I mention it because the motors are similar). Even with an upgraded rear wheel, the GS500 has to be modded to run a 150/70.

I'm all about making a bike look cool, but I think you are gonna run into a ton of headaches just to fit an extra 30mm of rubber out back.

Yeah, the only other option i can think of is a jack shaft, and on this small of a bike it's just more weight that i see being worth it. I understand the look thing. I run a 130 laced with a wm6 on my 360 for the same reason, and trust me on that tiny bike the 130 looks massive! I believe you could run the 130 no problem with the right hoop, but rich would know best. he's the Suzuki dude around these parts. him and beatnik.

Mad science bitches!

There is no acceptable amount of 'angle' on the drive chain, first of all.

You'd need an offset countershaft sprocket (the one on the engine) to line up with the sprocket on the wheel. There are limits to how far out you can go, and you'll have to modify the engine cover to provide room. You'll be working with a custom sprocket maker most likely.

Nope, no misaligning of cog and sprocket allowed.

... that would put the wheel off center and screw with the handling.
Nope, handling won't suffer with the rear wheel .5" or so off center.

Best regards
