speedo sending unit broken? Pics

So from what I can gather there should be some form of extension in the middle that turn the cable that is broken off?. Am I correct, if so how can I fix it. does anyone have this part kickin around?

Several people are using electronic speedo's so there should be a few speedo gearboxes around?
I've made speedo drive spacers for a couple of people recently, maybe they will get in touch?
