ST2 DuCafinated

Hi Everyone,

I have been building a cafe racer out of a ST2, but I guess the project will be more like in Monster style so I thought I would start a thread showing whats happening. (well its got a S2R swingarm so I guess it qualifies as part monster anyhow )

I will start at the beginning and run through to where its at.

Hang in, its making good progress and I hope you like it so far.

To begin with - bought a crashed bike at the auctions.

Stripping

cut the rear of the frame off and added in some tube

Bought a SSSA off an S2R and a wheel to fit from Gotham Cycles

Stripped the motor and replace bearings and seals but mainly just the paint the cases which had all the paint flaking off and had oxidising everywhere

Had to get a S2R read shock as the original ST2 no longer fit because of the gas canister.

got the engine parts back from the painters. Black with red pearl through it.

awful some of the castings. Billet is so much nicer

started making some bits up on the lathe

and polishing what i couldnt make

the painter got a little over zealous and sandblasted the cases inside and out. No damage but I put on a coat of glyptol red engine enamel on the inside to stop porosity issues.

got the case back together and set about adding some more bling

did i say i love machines parts ?

LOL bikeboy check the Members before and after thread the bike is there and it is awsome. This thread is the story behind it I believe.

knumbntz great job, my neighbor did a build on a crashed Duc but it wasn't to this level. Yours is amazing.

Picked up some nice rearsets on ebay.

wheels came back from painters....nice !

Machined up a spacer so I could get rid of the speedo drive

Found a set of headlights I liked and had them gold anodised

finally got the rest of the parts back from the painters so its GO time for the build.

Thanks for the comments. Headlights machined from billet to look like pistons.

I made up a tank decal in photoshop and got the painter to put in on

motor in, swingarm on.

new chain on, rearsets on.

today its up to here.
Worked out brackets for the lights, mounted the pump back in the tank and put the tanks on, checked out where the seat goes on, and set out to mount the tail light.

checked to see how to mount the speedo and how it will look, still have to make the bracket yet.
