Stainless exhaust

Hi All:

Some of you may remember, but I made a stainless 2-1 exhaust a few months back. That exhaust was a proof of concept and a training tool for customer exhausts. As such, this one has gone spare. Someone is going to get this one for a steal. Here are the specs:

100% back-purged, TIG welded
16ga 304 stainless primaries; 2.5" bend radius
custom fabricated merge collector
20ga Burns Stainless megaphone with reverse cone ($160 right there)
3-piece system: the primaries slip into one another and use beehive springs to hold it all together

$400

This system makes significant power. I was shocked by how hard it made the little CL350 pull. To see how I made it, go here:

I hate the look of the weld stripes around the pipes and I've never been a big fan of the 2-1 exhaust but its nice quality.
Good luck with the sale Chris. I hope it goes to a good home..

Hi MBS:

No 4-1 750 pipes...yet. I'm actually have a set of 4-2-1 pipes for a CB750 cooking in my head as we speak.

Leon:

Hey! That's out of character :) Yeah, the look isn't for everyone, but's how the real deal is made. Have you ever seen F1 exhausts?

That one's obviously been through a heat cycle. Still, I am considering building the non-welded type.

id be all over this if i had a 350...nice work

Chris let me know when you have a cb750 mocked up, im in the market for one. its for a DOHC though....

oh and theres nothing some header wrap cant fix about those weld joints

Thanks for the kind words...

LOL, I fabricate the exhaust that way to display the craftsmanship, not cover it up. I could lay a pretty stack of dimes filler run, then sand it smooth. But then it would look homogenized. At that point, I might as well use big swoopy bends, fabricate the exhaust out of schedule 40 pipe and send it off to India to get sanded and chromed. That's just not me; like I said, I'm more into the celebration of craftsmanship.

If I cook up a CB750 exhaust, I'll keep you in mind. There is a lot of consideration that goes into a 4-2-1 exhaust that takes time to chew through.

oh im with you Chris, im not one for header wrap, your welds are spot on. Ive been welding for almost 10 years and i still stop and stare at beautifully laid down beads, i prefer the discoloration too... its art to me.

I think the exposed welds look beautiful not to mention you can see the work done and not just ground down and painted or wrapped. Why it's stainless not mild steel so show it off. That's a quality built part right there.

I agree I think the stainless raw exhaust looks down right beautiful, and I like the springs - not only functional but adds character. I will have to scrimp and save but I want one for the cb750 (hint I have clamps, just needs to be set up to slip over flanges like the earlier style). Even just a header set up to take a slip on baffle would be fine, I can pick out a baffle anywhere provided its a standard size pipe. My mind is made up.

Ya- raw and springs for the win. I will take a reasonably priced set for a CB750 if I have the cashola once their made too!
