Starting Cafe Project from Western North Carolina

Hi all! My name is Tom and I have been riding for years but mainly newer model sport bikes like R1's, 600RR, older 750's and what nots. I have been wanting to build a older vintage bike since I was a teenager and just now found something for a good starting price.

I bought a 71 Honda CB350 about a week ago and got it basically in pieces. I kind of slipped up and didn't take too many pictures so I only have one of it before the engine went in and one after i got it in. So far in the last week I have done all the basic stuffs like valves, spark plugs, oil change, clean carbs, etc... Everything was going great, got the bike to start up on a single kick, runs great but today after putting on a new chain it is looking like transmission troubles, probably first gear I think. Either way here are some pictures and hopefully some more to come!
 
Welcome to the board! Good luck with the trannie troubles... maybe i should say transmission troubles instead. ;D
 
Thanks and I will take the good luck in either situation! Maybe more so for trannies than transmissions ;D. I am thinking after a day of solid thinking to clean the clutch plates and see if they are sticking, seems unlikely but I am being optimistic for now. I was pretty close until transmission stuffs so i hope it works out and i can start rebuilding the spare engine and still having something to ride while i do that.

Welcome! Nice looking 350! where abouts in Western NC are you?

I know where Weaverville is!! used to go camping up in that area all the time!! I am actually down in Charlotte! I have heard that there is a guy up that way who does some great work on vintage bikes!! if you are having troules with your bike look him up on craigslist... cant remember his name, but if you search craigslist motorcycle section for vintage honda I am sure you will find him! I wish there was someone like that around Charlotte... I really need some help with my engine rebuild!

Later.. next time I am up Ashville way I will let you know before I head up, maybe we could go for a BlueRidge ride!

Yeah for sure, hit me up if you get up this way man. It is great up here as you know, I like it out in Weaverville, still close to Asheville but real quiet and still lots of land without walmarts :) I like the walmart but Asheville has about 4 or 5 and is tiny. Getting rediculous.

Yeah you are talking about Chris Finlayson, at Existential Motorcycles. He is a great guy, really knows his stuff and is a straight shooter too, he will just let you know if something is a bad idea and he honestly tries to save you some money instead of just fixing it and overcharging. I recommend him highly, i actually bought this bike from him and he has been a huge help with everything I have needed. He will answer questions if you shoot him an email, he is really cool that way he just wants to see people out enjoying these older bikes and having a good time more than he wants to see money rolling in.

I have been trading emails with him for about 4 or 5 months now trying to work out some issues on my bike, I really wish he was closer to Charlotte!! Need some help with my engine rebuild! Anyway, good luck on your build and if you are ever in Charlotte hit me up!

Cool man, i will let you know if i get down there i have some friends that i been meaning to visit at some point.

Yeah Chris is a great guy! Take a couple weeks off and come up here and get it done! :)
