SV650 cafe seat and frame

Still working on the rear frame for my sv650 cafe racer.
plans keep changing, the lithium battery which blew up was going in the tail. Due to budget I will run the gel battery that was in the bike when I got it. so electrics in the tail and battery on its side hard up under the seat (about 50mm will be visable under the seat). Later the lithium battery can go there and be out of sight
Today I welded up the frame, but after welding, the rear part of the hoop dipped down so I had to put a cut both sides and pull it back to square.
I think it looks ok now.

Looks nice! Those welds could have used a little more practice though. Was that a flux core welder?

You should have done a bit on the underside then a bit on top to get the weld even out. If you just run a fat bead on the bottom it's going to pull in that direction big time. Also, securing the frame down and using something like a 2x4 under the hoop would help not get pulled too much.

The arse end looks really low. This is where things get tricky. The seat needs to be higher to help your knees straighten up a little and raising the rear suspension whould go astray but that leaves you with the style issue of how to get that flat top/table top look so that the bottom of the seat and tank are more or less straight as if they sat on a table.

I had a similar problem on a naked ST3 Ducati and paint is teh answer in my case. Many CB750/900 owners use that same approach to change the visual appearance. The seat in the picture is a mock up used to develop the 3d shape.

Nearly finished making some new dog bones 100mm in place of 105mm
After doing a mock up that raised the back just over 20mm.
I will some pictures once in and I can con someone into taking them.

I agree with teaser. Make it work and fit best for you, screw fashion. That can be fixed with paint later.

I fitted the new dog bones they raised the back 15mm no change to the seat or frame.
the handling is much chuckable I like it but will have to see,

An up date fro by build thread to show how the new tank is progressing, It's made from a sectioned honda tank which I am adapting to be deeper an match the shape of the sv frame., enhancing the cafe racer style.
The front portion will be air box and the rear 2/3 will be fuel.
