Seat / electrics tray strap finally cut and fettled - broke out my spanking new Aldi welder [ £29.00 ] only to find that the garage supply has been hooked into our low power extension [ as in room extension ] fuse / trip box.

So that came to a grinding halt after I reset the trip 3 times ! NO 35/45 amp fuses anywhere to be had, so we're back on hold again until that's resolved.

HOWEVER, when the strap is finally welded in, it's off to the shotblasters.

Three steps forward etc ...................... :

While waiting for the 40 amp trip block to arrive I finally got the rear wheel bearings completely sealed ready for blasting / p.c.

Also made a front mounting strap for the seat - belt and braces.

Def recommend getting new sealed wheel bearings from Z1enterprise. Now the time to replace them when you got the wheels all apart. They don't cost that much either.

Thanx for the headsup CM. Where is Z1 based ? I'm in the UK. However, there are some reasonably priced bearings around. The deal is to find the bearing numbers and then go to a bearing supplier, as opposed to a motorcycle bearing specialist ! You'd be surprised how much you could save.

The bearings were replaced 500 miles before I got the bike. However, they are not expensive in the grand scheme of things.

The front will definitely be coming apart as soon as I get the spindle out !

I'll be trying the fork leg tip, plus some heat to get the job done. I don't have facilities to get heat on the job, so waiting to take the wheel to a pal with Oxy gear.

The kicker is that the chrome on the front wheel is OK ! All the spokes are GTG [ front and back ] but the back rim / spokes are badly surface corroded and beyond salvation - so powder coating it is.

Frame is off tomorrow to have the seat mount brackets welded in.

Shot blasters when I get back from Saxony.

Having waited 3 months for "mates" NOT to do the welding, all done and dusted in 10 minutes - including cutting one new strap.

Just back from Saxony with a "do list" as long as your arm !!! However, that DOES mean I have a planned schedule to progress things a little quicker.

KZ Frame completed thanx to my new weld / fab pal. Powder coaters are on a summer shutdown - open again next week.

The same new tame welder guy has also agreed to fab up my Weber 40DCOE manifold. That just leaves the wheels [ yes still not sorted ! ] and the exhaust as the only big outsource jobs.

Frame, s/arm, side stand, yokes [ triple trees ] and fork bottoms all ready to go to powder coaters - booked in next week. Colour FO red, that's jic the wrinkle finish paint doesn't become available !

I managed to sort out a few more parts for powder coating - rear caliper mount bracket, rear brake torque arm, yokes [ triple trees ]. I had also forgotten [ !! ] to remove the old ball race cups - they're in the bin now !

While I was at it I took a picture of the final seat / undertray mounting straps I had welded in.

Finally - the powder coaters are back up and running. KZ parts dropped off - ready next week as they've got a bit of a back log courtesy of the downtime with their oven.

My wire wheels are now also finally sorted - I'll drop them off when I collect the frame and parts.

My PC is playing up at the moment. but as soon as I can get access. I'll post pix of the new shiny parts ! 8)

Collected the frame and parts for the KZ and the Vindicator [ Black ] today. ;D

The bad news is that after saying they could - they now definitely want the bearings removed from the wheels before powder coating - bummer.

I contacted a pal who has got gas welding kit, and he said he'll get some heat on the spindle - has to come out one way or the other, but looks like after Christmas now. Just when things were moving along ...................................... :

Believe me after the year I've just had - this IS major progress !

Just boxing up the parts for Gold passivating - engine plates, spindles, bolts, sprockets ............. They are on a 2 week turnaround and close for the whole of Christmas week / New Year - so it looks like early January now for those parts. Hopefully that will give me time to get the engine unit steam cleaned. prepped and painted.

Just hope my "new" welder pal doesn't let me down on the Weber intake manifold fab.

Just dug out all the "tins" for prep / painting - Tank, front mudguard, seat base - there'll also be the obligatory "Flat Tracker race number plates.

Question ............... originally I had pretty well decided on a real Fuck Off Yellow - Renault 356 Service Yellow. That was the same as my Replica 356 California Speedster [ BRIGHT ].

Now, I'm thinking more of lighter shade - like the old Jaguar Primrose [ E Types ].

I need some input please ..............................................

You need a bright colour that can be seen from as far away as your rival can see ahead. Going for the brightest yellow you can get!

Yellow and red reminds me of Ronald McDonald. So personally I wouldn't go yellow with a red frame.

This map torch is good stuff. Get a concrete bolt anchor that fits your bearing hole, tighten and then use a socket extension on the other side to smash it back out. Once you got one out the other one is easy to remove.

Thanx for the feedback ..........hmmmmm there is that about my least desireable food outlet [ "food" used advisedly ]

My problem CM is not the bearing removal as such - I have a brand new set of blind bearing pullers - the front wheel spindle is resisting all efforts to remove it. Apparantly it is NOT an OEM wheel for this bike [?]. I think a bit of heat will do the job. It's not as if I can't see how it comes apart - just getting it apart with my very limited resources. [ eg - no bench vice - in fact - no bench !!

Brodie - that Renault Service Yellow IS the brightest pure yellow known to man. I even still have a litre can of it in my stash !

Alternates to Yellow then ?

Why not try a pearl white? White and red match quite well.
