Thoughts/experience on a A100

MarcW

yo... ohio...
I'm looking into a 66 Dodge A100 for a bike hauler since I got rid of my ram.

Just curious if anyone on here's had any dealings with them.

Not the exact truck but to give you a idea...

The slant six is bullet proof. If its a 727 Torqueflight transmission, thats also bullet proof. I think the A100's have an ugly/ cool factor thats hard to find anywhere.

Pictures?

Here's the pics they have posted, I'm gonna try and check it out this week...

I still have to get rid of my Fairlane too though...

There are 2 slant six's. The bigger one, I think a 225 or 226 ci, and a smaller one that is in the 177-ish range. Both of them are good engines, the smaller one doesn't make a lot of power, but is damn reliable, you can literally run cooking oil in the sump if you wanted or had to. (Don't ask how I know) the 225 makes decent horsepower, but it is designed more for torque, which is good. Both engines have plenty of parts available and are fairly cheap and easy to work on, even in that cramped engine bay.

BTW, I've personally seen a 177ci with a pushbutton auto running sub 10 second 1/4's driven by a guy in his 70s. They definitely have potential.

My older brother is currently sporting a '68 A100 Van, since a stupid blonde ran a stop sign and totalled his Durango. Says he can't go anywhere in it without people stopping him to either check it out or try and buy it.

That van is badass!!!!!!!

Looks like I won't be checking it out until next week...
Hopefully it's not too far gone I need something pretty close to ready to run...

This borrowing a truck to pick up bikes is for the birds!!!

Dude, A100's are sweet! When I do get a truck it'll be one of these (or a long wheelbase A108 if I can find one). There were 2 slant sixes available in 66, there was a 170 and a 225. They are bulletproof and can be tweaked to get pretty decent mileage. It would definitely be a cool bike hauler.

As much as I'd love to get it I think I'm gonna pass on it. I kinda need something ready to go and this a100 needs some love. Probably gonna go for a full size chevy or ford, early 80's all the way through the mid 90's. I figure with a range like that I should be able to find something that will fit the bill!!!

Thanks for all the help guys, maybe in the future I'll have my a100!!!
