Tire set inquiry and poll

I know this is been beaten down before but I'd like some input on what some of you guys think of these tire sets.. First hand experience is better from guys I "know" rather than basic comments on the reviews. I'm going to be buying my tires this time while on the ship. I'm currently looking into Avon, Perelli, and Continental tires for my CB350f/400f hybrid. They are all pretty comparable price wise.

Avon AM26- I read good reviews on these and I know a bunch of you use these, but I saw some reviews about the tire walls cracking and them not being good in wet weather(i dont ride when its raining but I do live in the south so everyday random showers are common). These are a tie for top tires with the Perellis for asthetics.

Perelli Sport Demon - I read good reviews on these as well, and Perelli is a very well known tire make and they are a big name in racing(which I won't be doing but its a good indicator of quality for me).

Continental ContiGo - I don't know much about this brand but there are good reviews on this tire and would be a 3rd choice for asthetics.

I don't see anything bad about any of those tires.

For rain, I bet those Avons are better than anything available when the bike was new.

I think any of those choices are excellent....
 
Yea well I just was looking for some "reviews" on any of them.. I know most of the guys on here use the Avons so maybe that says something..
 
Probably use Avons because it is easier to spell.....the other brands have way too many letters....easier to type Avon.. ;D
 
I just ordered a pair of Avons to replace the Coker Firestones a couple hours ago. Dennis Kirk has the rear a bit cheaper. I wanted to go w a cheaper brand, Shinko 230 Tour master. but couldnt find the 90/90-19 front. So if Im spending 100 bucks ea. may as well go avon...i suppose. Never heard anything bad about them.
 
Yea, I guess I'm leaning more to the Avons then.. Just was curious if anyone knows anything about the Perellis. My truck has Perellis, so I was thinking if they are good why not match? Haha!
 
Ive never been a fan of Pirelli car/truck tires, but their motorcycle tires might be ok.

I ride on Bridgestone Battlax BT45s and i LOVE them

Ronnie, the cracking with the Avon's has been resolved as far as I know. But it may show up in reviews..... The ONLY issue I have with my Avon front tire is that it's a "universal" tread pattern, and the water dispersion is setup for a rear tire. Mind you, my front is a 100/90-18", and I can't recall what size yours will be.....

Can't speak for the Pirelli's or Conti's, but I will be putting Pirelli tires on my 650 when the time comes.

Oh I like my Pirelli truck tires, they are grippy and quiet, plus they look nice.

Yea, I read after I posted that, that the cracking was a short run of tires in '09 and since has been fixed from what I can gather. I'll have to look at more reviews to see for certain. How does that universal pattern affect water dispersion on the front? Hydroplaning? And I would be getting a 100/90-19" so it would be a universal as well. About the Pirelli's, I haven't heard much bad from them other than they wear fast, but this bike wont be an everyday driver so it may take me 4-5 years to get 4k miles on the tires. By then I would say the tires have paid for themselves.

It all really depends on what the bike looks like. I think all three are great choices but it will come down to which matches the whole rest of the bike. Can't wear sneakers with a 3 piece suit, gotta match the style!
 
They just aren't made for water dispersion......I've never had an issue riding in the wet stuff, it is more of a psychological thing for me.

I had BT-45's on my Nighthawk 750. They wore pretty quickly, and the front cupped as it wore. Replaced with Dunlop K505's. They have already outlasted the BT-45's and have no cupping on the front.

I liked the BT-45 when new, but was disappointed in the wear. 6K miles. I already have 7k on the Dunlops and they are about 50% worn.

As they say, "Your mileage May Vary"
 
Wow...you guys would be really disappointed with the tires I used to run when I had my GSXR 750 that I only got about 1000 to 1200 miles out of....Dunlops ... some seriously stupid fast street riding...sometimes I wonder how I am alive...and race tires were lucky to last a weekend at the track...

I've reduced my stupidity (though not completely ;) ) over the last 30 years. As I got older, I find am more adverse to unnecessary pain. Permanent injury is just that, permanent. I have enough bad joints and calcium deposits that I really don't want to be further reduced in capacity.

So even my car tires and brakes last much longer than when I was first driving.

I was drifting on 1974, before I knew it was called that. Wore out the new rear tires on my car in 600 miles.

I also learned I can't afford to drift... ;D

It is better to take it a little easier.

I have close to 5000 miles on the tires, no chicken strips but still lots of tread left. Excellent traction wet or dry. 400 lb bike, 220 lb rider.

I agree 100%... the urge is still there from time to time ... but I have 2 beautiful daughters I would like to see get married, much much further down the road though :o
