What sizes are stamped on the wheels? Usually it's near the valve stem on spoked wheels or around the hub on mags. Once you have the wheel sizes, check this page:
The biggest tires you can fit on the wheels are not the tires you buy, unless you want a bike that handles like ass and is dangerous at highway speeds.
Fit what Honda says ya should or similar. Anything more can cost ya.
+ 1 on what Von said. I have 79 GL1000 and wanted to fit a larger front but after research found out it really messes with the handling of the bike to the point it is dangerous. There are certain models of bikes that you just can't mess with tire sizes. I would go to www.ngwclub.com and ask the folks over there, they are the biggest knowledge group for Gen 1 and 2 wings out there. Another Honda that had the same issue was the CBX550 from the early 80's fitting too large a front tire to it caused deaths from speed wobbles at moderate speeds. It has a similar dual disk front end set up as the GL. May be safe to go a bit wider or taller but I would research it first.
