Under seat electronics tray (no cafe hump)

Hi All,
in my build (Suzuki GSX400) i will have a flat seat and no "Cafe racer" hump.
i plan on using an anti gravity 4 cell battery.
question is will i be able to put all electronics (starter relay,R/R,ignitor,turn signal relay .fuse box and battery) under the seat pan on a tray welded to the bottom of the tail frame, or i should build a box extending about 1.5" under the frame- something like that:

p.s: maybe i'll mount hr R/R under the tray for better cooling

Best bet is to take a cardboard box and cut it up/tape it together in the planned configuration. Then test fit your parts into it.

Make sure you do this with major moving parts attached to the bike....IE rear wheel for clearance
 
Look up Kendrick's GS750. I think he has pictures of exactly that. However, his battery is still mounted in the stock location in front of the rear tire. All the electronics fit (tightly) under the seat though.

Start mocking things up, every bike is different so all I can say is "I know it works on the GS750"

Nice, clean job. I am considering doing the same but thought it may be a good idea to omit the front and rear face to promote air crossflow to keep the electronics cool.

depends. if you've not upgraded your RR, i suggest you do either that or drill holes in the tray. When i build a customer-bike, i normally fix the RR on the outside of the box, and all the other stuff inside.

edit; When you're going to use a new li-ion battery, you NEED to upgrade your RR. Old rectifiers/regulators are less accurate and WILL fry your expensive 4-cell.
 
Upgrading my R/R is definitely on the list. Will probably mount it under the tray like you mentioned.

I'm intrigued as I also will be doing the same soon. That is, mounting all electrics in a small box under the seat.
Should the RR definitely be mounted elsewhere where it can decent ventilation, or can a newer one survive in a confined box?
 
Like most I've just fabricated a steel box but I've left the battery out. Had to make a new battery box but there was just no room for the damn thing under there. The RR is mounted under the rear tail for air flow.

 
Hey man, know where I could find a short front fender like the bike in the top picture? Or the blue bike with the mini fender..need one of those for my Honda cb350

That's a six wire (which I believe is what you need for most old Hondas). Other bikes use seven wires. Just find the one you need.
