Very Quick Redline Question CB360

Been Around the Block
My bike will rev to 11k in 1st, 2nd and 3rd, but in 4th, 5th, and 6th it wont rev above about 7k on flat. (going downhill it gets up there)
Is this normal?
I am at 7000ft so I assume this is the main cause, despite 180 psi compression both sides.
I figure that that extra HP is just not available in the thin air.
Thanks, gents.

its jetted pretty well judging by the acceleration and throttle response in the first 3 gears. 60mph in 3rd at 9k!

if anything i am 1 size too rich on the main jet, which i can see causing a slight decrease in revs, but not a 7k brick wall.
cant know for sure til i get a plug removal tool, which i somehow lost.

i previously had a problem of not being able to redline and getting sputter at WOT in all gears, but 2 notches up on the needle fixed that.
i tried 175, 180, and 185 mains all with slightly different outcomes at WOT, but 185 kept climbing when i back off WOT slightly, so i had the brilliant idea to move the needle down further into the jet. (applause)

i guess i learned that needles dont just effect mid throttle response, but WOT as well.
even though all those charts show the needle as having no effect after 3/4 throttle. fair assumption?

now that you mention it though, i think i shift to 4th typically in the 6k range, so i will try to rev the piss out of it before shifting.

i would still think that being WOT in 4th, it would still be able to steadily climb up the tach, regardless of what the revs were when engaging 4th gear. again, i am told to expect ~8HP decrease at 7000ft, so this may just be that coming into play.

who wants to have a dyno party?
thanks for the input!

well try it without the pods, process of elimination
you may need some properly sized filters to allow enough air to produce max hp

FWIW, there is not much power after 8000 RPM anyway.....The CB360 was designed for better torque and power at lower RPM, unlike the CB350.

Pretty much a waste if time going past 8K RPM.

You are probably running out of HP/Torque in the higher gears.

Really good carb tuning may give you a little more RPM, but why waste the time....Fastest acceleration is with around 8k shifts.

180 PSI compression is actually high. If you are stock, this indicates a carbon buildup in the cylinders/pistons. A fresh, clean engine is 171 PSI.

Also, check dynamic timing with a strobe type light. You may not be advancing completely.

The CB360 is not well suited for continuous high RPM running. You run the risk of oil starvation in the cam box. I would suggest keeping the RPM under 8K for longest engine life.
