VM20's on a cl175?

Been Around the Block
I'm getting tired of looking for stock carbs for the bike. So i've been looking at others posts and most of them are going with vm20's.Is this a good route on replacing the stock ones?

the stock carbs are better, the oval throat gets better throttle response than a vm
and if you dont have the emulssion type needle jets in the vm"s the jetting will never be right

Really like this one http://www.amazon.com/Carburetor-ATC185-ATC185S-ATC200S-ATC200X/dp/B00AVYXOZS?

yes although those exact style tend to open up more at the mouth/flange i am not sure how they would match up to a cl175 manifold ,do you see what im sayin ?

Are you sure? 26mm is a little large for a stock 175, though we use them on a race motor. When you say they are 26mm, how did you measure that? The critical size is the throat, not inlet or outlet as ebay sellers tend to.

they are stamped cl77 and 26 on the side.

CL77 are indeed 26mm and they will work on a 175 motor but only if you ride hard all the time. CB72 carbs used to be the go for 160/175s but they are less common. Is the bike running and if so how are those carbs?

I didnt try running them with those carbs. But i might give it a shot. Will i have to change the jet sizes?

We use a pair of those carbs on one of our race 175s and it's remarkably tractable. I can't remember what we had to change, but I think I reprofiled the needles, had custom air jets machined and pressed in and changed the mains up a couple of sizes. Try going up on the main jets and fine tune from there..
