washing a bike (with a pressure washer)?

My bike is already pretty nice, but I'm inclined to get it *really* clean, which means washing it - I've got a pressure washer, which I assume would be good for getting stuff out of the fins and stuff, but I don't want to damage the engine and get water where it shouldn't go. What rules/proceedures should I use/follow when washing the bike?

Have not used a pressure washer to clean a bike, but I guess as long as you keep the pressure pretty low it should be okay. My only fear would be to have it too high and take off some paint/powdercoat or damage the fins.

Keep the water away from seals and bearings. Like your wheel hubs and swingarm bushings. Keep it away from the carbs and airfilter, too.

maybe steam clean used to do it on my engine bay w no real problems

HELL NO! forces water everywhere it should not be! I get about 3 bikes a summer with fried ECM's that all need replaced from pressure washers! granted we dont have ecm's on most of our scoots but still shows you that it gets in places it does not belong!
